Teak to teak adhesive?

Post by Preston Burrows »

I'm freshening up my B28's cockpit panels and cabin door's teak trim with new teak.

For the cabin door's replacement teak trim I'm going to use stainless steel brads nails for fastening on to the teak door jamb, but I'd also like to use an adhesive of some sort so as to have a uniform bond of the new teak trim to the existing teak door jamb.

The teak trim is about 1/8" thick and 1 1/8' wide x approx 60" long.

I don't want to use a permanent adhesive like 3M 5200 or 4200, in case for whatever reason I have to remove the teak trim, and I'm thinking of just using a clear silicone adhesive sealant?

The purpose of the adhesive would simply be to keep the new teak trim adhered flush to the existing teak door jamb along its entire length with the brads nails spaced every say 6" or so.

Would clear silicone adhesive sealant suffice with respect to its bonding properties teak to teak?

Choices here a limited and if not clear silicone adhesive sealant adhesive I'm thinking maybe Boat Life's Life Seal would suffice?

The photo below shows the old teak trim which I will be replacing on the door jamb:

Capt Pat:

Thanks for the tip, I'm familiar with Dap Alex Plus and it's available here.

Just came back home from my boat after dry fitting the teak trim and checking my lines and canvas- Tropical Storm Isaac's giving us a bit of wind here so most boat folks are securing canvas and shortening lines - hopefully it will continue its Northwest track, not gather strength and peter out between the end of Cuba and the Florida Keys............
