Bob,
Major step looks fantastic!
Where did you buy the plexus material, and how was it applied( caulking gun)?
My father and I are working on a center console, the cap is off and was going to epoxy it back in place, but I heard plexus material would be a good option, how did you like working with it?

The height worked out just as we planned Harry, got about five inches above my head, tall guys over 6' 2" may get a head ache..the plexus was supplied from composites one, the 590 comes in two five gallon buckets mixed one to one, has some crazy psi of 27000 psi, that should keep things held together.Capt Pat Im just making sure the old girl will be around for another 50 years..a battleship color would look mean..BH

Spencer,
Plexus can be bought via any Lewis, BOW or Composites One.
We used it when I was building boats 10 years ago. It's made by Devcon in Danvers, Ma. The rep for Plexus came to the shop and did a demo, 2 pieces of 3/8'' FRP stock glued to each other, it delamed the FRP before the glue joint let go.
Venture used it to attach the hull deck joint on there 39' center console, I did a damage report on one and the bolts and FRP sheared before the deck ever came apart. It's a chemical bond agent that etches into the FRP and permantly bonds 2 surfaces together, never to come apart again. It's not cheap, comes in tubes or pails good stuff.

Frank, The top is two layers of 3/4 foam, two layers of 1708 and one layer 1.5 oz cloth, thats on both sides of the roof and cabin, one extra layer of 1708 on the underside of the roof overhang. All total just shy of 2" thick. I buried 1/4 G-10 backers on the top of the roof for rocket launcher, tower or hoop set up, radar etc. Gert Im thinking that color for the whole boat..blacked out windows, black n gold Bertram Stripe, black bottom...Got the picture all figured out in my head..BH

Bob if you compare this roof concept to construction we would call it a jump header. By making the roof super duty you tie in the rigidity from bow to stern. You and I work the same water where the bottom will be subject to tension and the gunwale compression as we continuously drop off 6 to 8' waves at higher speeds then normal.I did it with a 21/4" thick gunwale and belly band around the cockpit perimeter that also supports outside edges of cockpit deck. This is to take that flex out of the area of maim bulkhead.i belive you will be very happy with this set up!!!!

Can you see me grinning Bob??
It looks much better than it did in the yard......As you remember we only had sides when I was up there.....no roof......just in my minds eye.
All I can say is DANG! ! !....your right.....the ole girl sure is showing a personality! ! !
You still put the strip down the side above the windows?......say "yes"
You would make Mr Resmondo very proud.

Thanks for the feedback guys, Harry the side trim is not on yet, I like some of the roof details on the link Pete put up, gave me a few ideas, Frank I thought about having the center window hinge and open, but its just out of reach with the windshield leaning forward. I think I will go with a hatch on the roof like Brews ride. I will template the windows this week and send them out for pricing. BH

Bob-
Having followed this project for two years, I am really glad to see it come together. Really starting to look like the battle wagon you had planned. To all who have commented....having seen it several times.....it's a lot mo re rugged than you can imagine...Tank is an understatement, believe me. I am with you on the grey.....it will look great. Keep up the good work. If you need Atwater fix, i should be in Ina couple of weeks. Come down and hang out anytime.

Looks great Bob....I'm jealous. But then again, I needed to renovate the house before I can indulge in the luxuries. It's also getting time to look for "Land Yacht III".......
With any luck, I may get my Luhrs back in the water in time to enjoy some of this season... and I mean...A LOT of LUCK!!
