Most folks move to Florida first and then if they don't like the summer heat, they head to the Carolinas ....I've heard them referred to as "halfbacks"

Charlie...

Probably more info can be exchanged if we talk. Want to set up a time?
Drop me a PM if you want to confirm.

Also consider a visit.. we can take you around and give you the 75 cent tour. It used to be the 50 cent tour until gas went up so high. I just did the same thing with a high school classmate about a month ago!

I said "if" on the heat. I love the outer banks, but prefer the ease of access to Lauderdale and west palm airports and the access to "more going on". You can always hang at home and beat the crowds, but I like being able to have the best of both worlds.
I like Stuart, FL ... reminds me of Sag Harbor (off season) in Florida.

When (if) I ever retire, it will be snowbirding from Ft Lauderdale to Sag Harbor.
Best of both worlds !!

Hey Charlie - why stop half way? I have some lots on the water across from my camp (next door to Andre's camp) that I'll make you a deal on.....low taxes, great fishing & hunting, lots of breaks for seniors, like a $5 annual hunt/fish license, all our state officials are Republicans, etc. C'on down! And two B31s within 100 yards to keep your company.

In fact, its so nice (be in the mid 80s today) that I'm headed o the camp after while for another 10 day sabbatical.....it gets a little warm in the summer, but that's why we have everything a/c -ed.

Look up in yahoo " best state to retire" I think N.j. Was the worst and Mississippi was the best along with Alabama . North Carolina was my favored heat considered as well as hunting but they have that brutal 1percent tax on everything.belive it or not new York was halfway on list because first 21,000 is tax free from new York earned pension.house / land taxes are good (100 percent deductible while sales tax is not)Nj,Vermont even tax ss!!!!!!

No taxes down by UV's camp.

Plenty of tax collectors buried in the swamp though.....

You should work in real estate. That nice, concise description worked for me.

Charlie...
From a comment above I am not sure if you have eliminated NC or not. If you want I can send you a bunch of stuff about real estate here. Just let me know.
