Canada or Brazil

Post by conchy joe »

Ok faithful, I got a question.

As I announced I just purchased a pair of Cummins 4BT with the intention of doing a rebuild and then replacing my 351W's.

They are 150HP, 1988 vintage and have been torn down to the bare blocks. One block is cast "Brazil" one is cast "Canada."

(The serial numbers are only a couple of digits apart)

My question is? (drum roll please) Are there any known issues with the blocks cast in one county versus the other?????

Thanks guys.

This is a Bruce question. I don't think Cummins ever had an issue that was based on were the blocks were built. But Bruce would know about that stuff.

Only issue I've heard of on Brazilian blocks were the "53" 5.9 blocks which had cracking issues on the right side by the freeze plugs.

Over heating is alwAys your biggest foe.
Block deck and head should be checked.

Thanks, I was aware of the 5.9 blocks cast with 53, but I did not know they were cast in brazil.
