2012 Northeast Rendezvous, are you interested?

Post by Dug »

It looks like we may have a location!

I spoke with the manager of Seaport marine, in Mystic, CT yesterday. It is a marina that is a stone's throw from downtown Mystic. They would be very happy to host us, claim they can put us together, that there is a group rate, a dockside bar/party hosting room (I need to go look at that...), 2 year old beautiful bathrooms etc. and walking distance from the Whaler's inn in Mystic. All that is true. So, what do you think?

We can make it happen, all I need to know is whether I ought to begin to roll the ball.

Dinner could be held at the marina or at a restaurant in town. We just take a function room. It could also be at the Seaport if we wanted. Or at the Mystic Art center across the river, so we could stare at all our boats!

Lots of options.

Here is the link for Seaport Marine for the curious, as well as the Whaler's inn.

http://www.noankshipyard.com/marinaseaport.html

http://www.whalersinnmystic.com/

Take a look and let me know.

I need to get a feel for how many would be in and interested in coming, so I can give them a preliminary feel for how what kind of a group we would be coming in with. Chime in if you think you are part of this party!

Peter:

Congratulations on the wonderful news. Are bunkbeds being planned for your B31? LOL, I slept more than once on the engine box cushions so the kinder/gentler ones could have a roof over their heads.

What wonderful news!

So, not to tap out the conversation about Peter's awesome news, we are at 9 boats if I count correctly. I would like to set things up at Seaport marine when I get back from my jaunt to KY. Anyone else in???????

Lets see how many more we can get!

If you know guys who might want to come, but have not dropped in to let us know, please spread the word. Pick up the phone, shoot off an email, text, whatever it takes. But lets get the word spread, so I can let the marina know, and we can get the momentum rolling!!!!

Thanks!!!!

If that's so, I'll let the word slip to Jeff Briggs who redid and sold is 31 Bahia Mar (quietly) to Alec Baldwin last year. Tried to get them to Greenport last year (quietly) evwn for a day, but they didn't make it. If either of them know Baldwin, it might help make it happen even though it's further away.

Dug:

Count me in -- but more likely than not, via automobile. I'm still not certain what, if anything, will be floating this summer -- and it is only a 20 minute drive for me from Old Lyme.

If something changes, I will let you know asap regarding being a boat owner.

Bob:

If she looks like CZJ in her 20s -- have her leave the husband at home!

Dug:

Let me know if you want to get together sometime soon to start working on this -- the project I'm working on will keep me busy til Mid-March -- after that I should have weekends free again.

Best regards,

Tom

I'll be at Mystic this year since it coincides with a family function in Boston.

So here's my situation concerning the Rendezvous: I'll be flying into Logan on Aug 1st and the family thing is the 2nd. I'd like to come down to Mystic on Friday, hopefully find a boat to flop on Friday and Saturday night, and get back to Boston on Sunday for a return flight on Monday.

I have lodging and transportation issues taken care of for the days I'll be in Boston.

Any of you who might be able to help out on the Mystic end give a shout...

Best regards,

Patrick

I have to tell you all that with all that has been going on in my life, I'm afraid this event may be a bit less formal and more loosely organized than in past years.

I know we have a destination, but I don't know how many have made reservations.

I know we will have a dinner, but I don't yet know price and reservation process. I hope to get some of that nailed down this coming weekend.

I have no handle on t-shirts or giveaway items, but don't really think that was ever the focus of the event in the first place.

No matter what, it will be good to see friends, and spend time together on the docks. Any questions, shoot me a note. I'll try to respond.

I feel a bit like a heel however, as I have not done the push marketing and all the phone calls that have been made in the past. Its been a tough spring...

Anyway, Looking forward to seeing friends.
