I found out that the gas in The Netherlands also contains ethanol ( 5%)

Please tell me I will be fine............

damn , after how long exposure the gelcoat will start to disolve ??

Gert - consider switching to aviation gas. It's trouble to haul around, and more expensive, but not as expensive as a new tank. 10% killed the tanks here, suppose 5% would do the same pretty quickly so keep your eyes on the push rods first.

The av gas has been a solution for many.

I slowly come to the conclusion that I lived in the best of times. Fuel was cheap and there was no ethanol to destroy your tank and engines. I caught Bluefin, Mako, & Marlin 10 miles off the beach. Ran up to Swordfish and Great Whites and looked them in the eye. My 22 knot cruise was one of the fastest in the harbor. Sushi was a secret, and the most complex instrument on the boat was a Loran. I could smoke a cigar and no one would complain. No cell phones, guests with handhelds trying to record your hot spots or DEC guys boarding the boat. Licenses were renewed by mail. In the words of Ronald Reagan...are you better off today than you were four years ago? Try twenty...and my answer is an unequivical noooooo!

The Judds, dysfunctional as they are, recorded a song called, "Grandpa Tell Me Bout The Good Ol Days".

That ain't no lie.

Most of the guys I think started to see issues after two seasons with ethanol.

Two seasons did it for me. By the third season it was over!!

After a couple of years, my little Briggs and Stratton powered edger is having trouble now. I had to replace the fuel tank, fuel filter, and carb on my homelite weed wacker after about 4 years.
It seems to just break down and/or rot out what isn't compatable.

Find a small private airport, they will sell you the AV fuel. It is high octane leaded. They can not mix Ethanol with AV gas. Makes the planes fall out of the sky.

Here in NYC we had a winter blend "up to 10% Ethanol" also called Oxegenated fuel. I ran for years on that fuel at the end and beginning of each season. I cannot say it was ever 100% Oxegenated as I just topped off tank as I used boat, but I definitely ran some % of Ethanol in tank with no I'll effects.

The hour I took on 40 gallons of E-10 on an empty tank...I had problems.

So maybe 5% is okay...

I'd keep an eye open for the signs, hard starting, lack of power, need to modify idle adjustments, and the ultimate sign "Black Goo on the Spark Plugs" tar like crap. Start seeing that and start planning on changing the tank.
