One fine day...

Post by Bob H. »

Today May 7, 2011 at 3:17 07 I fired off those sleepy Cummins Diamonds for the first time...Changed the filters, cranked the engines to get good oil pressure, reconnected the fuel solenoid, primed both fuel systems. Port engine went first, cranked em for about 6 turns, sputtered and jumped right to life...starboard engine 1/2 turn and fired right off..that after sitting for 3 1/2 years...ran them on the Harry Babb barrell n pipe system...both came up to temp, strong oil pressure 60 lbs at idle...well worth the wait and Mikey was right Ive got a smile that could crack your face...BH

Bob,
I bet you are feeling pretty good. All that work and then you get to see the light at the end of the tunnel when they come to life.
Is that and underwater LED on the transom?

Bob, It's a smile to remember. Hope you had the door open to your shop or it could be your last smile.

Thanks to all...it sure does give your spirits a lift...the elbows are trident marine 6" elbows, bought them for the exhaust install but went a total different direction. Kevin the lights are LEDs. Shift, throttle, trolling valve cables are next, one more bilge pump..then the deck goes on for good..top cap..paint n finish...sure can see the light from here gettin oh so close...BH

Congrats, Bob, a giant step and a hell of a sound.

bob i was fourtunate to have engine dyno at my desposal. one engine ran at 314hp at 2800 the other turn up 310hp at 2800 . allways put stronger engine to starboard (stardard rotation). you have remax. if i recall and cummins does a short run on gas to test for leaks and hp . should show up on factory paperwork with other stats (oil pressure/water temp. etc.) anyways factory runs each engine for 1/2 hour as pre break in , then removes oil for shipment in the northeast .do you have paperwork?

Pretty work,

Blue Silicone elbows make for a mighty pricey diverter tube.

How'd you like the exhaust note?

First couple tunas been taken out of that water SE of you, hurry up.

JP, Throaty commercial sound just like you said...very sexy as Brew would say...draggin a tuna over the rail will be another fine moment..Bob I bought the engines from a family friend that worked for Cummins NE, not remax Cummins per say, the guy who built them was a engine wiz that had planned on putting them in a 31 Bertram of his own, deal fell through but he had already done the engines over..he ran both engines on the dyno and both came in within 2 hp after tweaking pumps..lets say there is more than enough hp to cruise the old girl along at a blistering pace...Dug anytime your in this neck of the woods stop by..after I glass the deck on most of my hard work will be hidden forever..glad I took pics most wouldnt believe it..BH
