Off Topic / Bertram distractions
Been absent for a bit and have to say I miss the board. The B25 project got put on "temporary" hold. I have a opportunity to join a hunting lease that I have been wanting on. Only one problem, no off road wheels, no 4 wheeler, side-by-side, jeep...nada.
So I picked up a 57 cj5 to give a "quick" going over (yeah right). Any-how this is the little "hour eater" that has consumed my spare time and pulled me off the boat. I will say that a tiny, old jeep is a small project compared to a full grown boat!
Hope to have it wrapped up in a few months and be back on the boat.
BTW...found the little guy not far from the good Capt. On a ranch near Fredricksburg, TX...sittin under a tree, broke...lol. Why can't I ever buy anything that ALREADY runs?

Scot,
I also have a jeep "problem"I think between dad and I we have 8 or so. Flatfenders,CJ5'S,Military, they just seem to multiply if left in the dark together.
Check out www.earlycj5.com great resource.
A pic of the latest boat diversion for me....

You gotta like a jeep with Rockwells and a hood ornament. earlycj5 is a good resource, so is Pirate 4x4 and FSJ (where my waggy D44's came from)
The F-head was full, 2 gallons of water. So it turned into a "build". Bits and pieces are showing up at the house daily.
I will say my boat building supplies are coming in real handy. 2 part epoxy + milled fiber + cabosil makes a very nice repair putty...sorta like Bondo meets JB Weld. Makes quick work of rust holes!

Hey Scot, wondered where you have been hiding.
You have already figured out what you can do with an old boat and $100,000.00
Wonder what you can do with an old jeep and a hundred thousands dollars? If I know you like I think I do, I already know the answer.....you'll make it look and run like a million dollars.......Keep us up to date with pics
I'm gonna try it with a '69 Vette after DeNada splashes

Practically just down the road! Sorry for the omission.
BTW what has happened to Fredricksburg? I haven't been out there in 15 years and boy what a change. I was out of place in old jeans and a Dodge truck. Felt like I should have dressed up to walk around town. NOT the west Texas town I remembered. The good part was 2 miles out of town and everything seemed normal again!

Awesome Scott.
When I moved to Tulsa in the 70's I met a couple of 4 wheelers who ran Scout's on the Arkansas river.
Going to school I couldn't afford a Scout, but down the street from the wifes parents was a brother of your Jeep, same model and year that had been stripped but never finished.
It came with a pto driven winch and a frame and body. A year later I had done the body work, painted it Indigo blue and installed a Buick V6.
Numerous times I buried it in water over the floor boards and miss it greatly. You'll have a blast, good luck.

Thanks Bruce,
The PTO winch set ups are the shizzle, and the prices on ebay, etc reflect the high "want" factor. The Buick V6 is the natural selection and makes a really nice little jeep...plenty of power with very little weight. They were OEM options starting in the mid 60s. The stock "F" head had 72hp and weights 470lbs! That's a piss-poor ratio in any book.
The "engine du Jour" for the older jeeps is the 4.3 V6 Chebbie. On the look out for one as we speak. I'm planning on running the 4.3, t350, d18 case and I have a pair of offset D44's that are going in.
The body plan is Krylon. The intent is to use it in the woods and I'm no body work guy. Killing the rust with Eastwood converter and layin on the spray can.
It's a fun little break from the boat project.

Scot
I almost grabed a old land cruiser a while back, but they are too damn expensive and I have enough projects, besides i dont think my wife will allow me to buy another project till the 31 is done.
I have a bare 4.3 block at my office you can have if you want.
Its a 93ish, non vortec but roller cam. Bought it as a spare i hot rodded a 4.3 in high school and broke the starter ear off of it. I may even have some other misc stuff.
