Post by Tommy »

Hey guys, I have no interest in this boat other than trying to help a good friend. It's a 1960 Cubavitch Open Bulkhead SF that my buddy completely renovated 6-7 years ago. He repowered with new Yanmar 6LP-STEs, and it's a low hour boat . He accepted a job out of the country and is unable to use it. As we all know, those boats with lot's of mahogony and teak require lots of TLC. I'll try to post the link, but if I fail, it's one of only two Cubavitches on Yachtworld. I've encouraged him to accept a good B-31 in trade!

Absolutely beautiful boat. I can't imagine all the upkeep on the wood.

What I have seen in the past is that it is a well built Rybovitch knock-off. One of the Murray brothers used to have one at Montauk Marine Basin called the Cookie too in the Halcyon Giant Tuna days of the 70's.

I like the warm look of varnished wood on any boat. I have owned wood boats and don't want another one. As you all know the up keep requires an incrediable amount of work.

But I still like

Pretty amazing that this topic has come up here because there is quite a connection between Cubavich and the 31 Bertram. I came across an article on Cubavich and near the end it talks about Dick Bertram and his 31's connection to Cubavich. I have the article in PDF format, but I am not sure how to post something like that here. If someone can tell me how to do that I will attach the PDF with the article here.

Thanks Capt. Patrick.

Interesting article and if you read to the last page there are several references to Dick Bertram and the 31 Bertram.

Classic. Really beutifull boat. That dinette seating looks familiar. Bertram must have copied it.

On the rybovich topic. I've thought for some time that this boat has a perfect looking interior. Which I'd like to copy the style and color scheme when I eventually do my interior

Peter ... this boat (or one that is a twin) is moored in the covered, in water storage at the Merritt yard in Pomano. The line-up of gorgeous custom boats there is "wear a diaper" gorgeous .... and they are just lined up, one after another.

Chieftan recently received a major refit/repower by Michael Rybovich and was owned by Alan Jackson. I agree, the interior is a great layout. Here are some more pictures if anyone is interested:

Thanks. It's a classic simple look. White with the wood trim and the light teal cushions with the white ribbing.
