harry...thanks for asking. its surely not the same. my thumb dosent bend in the middle and i have about 50-60 % of my former mobility. added to that....before the accident i had the steadiest hand in the world...now not so much. i have had to figure out different (and more time consuming) ways to get to roughly the same place. its way more about whats in your head and your heart than whats in your hand.
skip..2 cups every morning.
heres a different view.
i do 3/4 of the work with this one tool. where i make my own tools is gluing sandpaper to odd shapes i carve to reach unreachable places. occasionally ill bend and sharpen a piece of steel for the same reason. i get in a tizzy in the beginning because i can see it in my head and want to make it appear. i dont know i nicked myself till i notice the blood
Like every one else, I am in awe at what an artist can envision & then bring to fruition. Here is a link to where Randall is documenting the process.

Once again, my friend, magnificent but what is this recent obsession with boxes of $$$?

Back in the 60's, I was an art director at BBDO, one of the largest Advertising agencies. I did a Springtime ad for the Ladies Home Journal that ran on the back page of the first section of the NY Times. The illustration was a hand holding a gardener's spade with a mound of dirt on it from which were three sprouting pseudo plant shoots that were made of rolled up one dollar bills. The day after the ad ran, two guys in blue suits and white shirts got off the elevator and asked the receptionist for me. Since I expected no one, I asked the receptionist where they were from. They were US Treasury agents, and did I get a dressing down for daring to use US currency in an ad. They assured me they had my name and If I ever did anything like that again, I would be in BIG trouble. Times sure have changed. Back then we'd have to visit Randall in jail and they would have confiscated his beautiful work...as they did mine.
As always, amazing stuff. Do you do commission work only?
no ...this piece is for a show in NY...i have a gallery in NY, miami and santa fe. the gallery in santa fe (jane sauer) does three art fairs a year....the next one is SOFA NY....in april. this will be there. i just got a commission from a major NY art dealer to ..........oy.....do another one. be very careful what you wish for.
that said i do commissions on my own as long as i didnt meet the client because of one of the galleries.
Randall,
My tiny little mind gasped at the envelope Guido gave you.
