Back to rebuilding the GM 453s

Post by Art Sutch »

Well, i'm back to square one, rebuilding the 453 jimmies i just pulled out. The 471s were to long and would not fit without alot of other work. My budget can't support the idea of yanmars or cummins. So on rebuilding the 453s, any suggestions on anything i can do in the rebuilding process to better the proformance of these engines in the 31?? Also what is the best size prop to run with these engines, 1.5 to 1 gear ratio. and 1 3/8 shafts. Any suggestions would be helpful. Anyone looking for two 471 turbo-charged jimmies in rebuilt condition with 2 to 1 paragon redution gears??? thanks, Art Sutch

Someone on a much higher payscale than me will have to make recommendations on improving the performance of a 4-53...may be Bruce or Scott will chime in here soon....

But I have to say....I love your website....what are the "Toad Stool" looking white things in the photo of you and the Seals??

Are they 453 n's or t's ?

140 vs 170hp.

Can't even imagine trying to stuff a 471 in a 31.

What prop were you running before and what was the wot rpm?
