? for Bruce

Post by JohnCranston »

Bruce,
What would it take to pump up the h.p. to 230/240 on my Yanmar 170's? Talked to Capt pat a few weeks ago and was advised to contact you. Any help would be appreciated, Bruce.

Thanks, John.

I might be convinced to buy a 170 or two if the price is right. I just happen to have a couple of B20's that could use them.....

John,
I believe Bruce is in training this week and on his way to see Patrick.
I dont know if it's possiable to boost the HP that much from a 170. It would deafinatly need a new injector pump, turbo and timing gears to start with but I believe the compression ratio is higher in the 240.

John,
Sorry for not answering sooner, but I've been busier than Teddy "the swimmer's" bartender trying to get everything done to leave out Wed.

The conversion of the 170 to 240 is not cost effective. Besides the externals, the head and pistons are different. Parts and labor about 10 to 12 grand a side.

Bruce,
Your room's open if you need it as a pit stop.

Andre my friend,
Since I will be stopping in Panama City for a few days, the run to Pats will be a good day and I won't be needing a bed.
But I appreciate the offer very much.
On the way back though, I may swing by your area and see if you and UV want to grab a meal. I'll call before I leave Pat's and see what your up to.

The 20 Baron has a Chevy 350 connected to a velvet drive and then a Stern Powr outdrive. No thru-hub exhaust, no outdrive water intake, just a solid hunk of commercial iron. I just need a bobtail engine and bell housing.
