Hueso,
Trying to reach friends on Tortola to no avail. Power is probably out. Heard that the Bomba Shack was a casualty. How sad. Bomba will have the local rabble out scouring the beach and neighborhood for scrap lumber and tin to rebuild. CAn't do without that bar. What would we do at the full moon?

Hueso,
I hope we in NC have the same good luck that ya'll had with Earl. But I feel that our luck is running out. Nobody here on the Outer Banks took Earl serious till tonight. Now the mad dash. Keeping fingers crossed. But I think hatteras is in trouble again.
36 hrs it will be over for us.
Frank

Frank:
That is exactly what happened down here....nobody took it seriously and when the 11:00 am report on Monday came out, it was found that the wind span of the hurricane was larger than they thought and everybody panicked. Traffic jams were a mess.....people running to marinas to tie their boats, etc.
I don't like to play God with these things when they come that close.
Randall:
Waves looked like a washing machine......however, yesterday was another story........I do body boarding....next time I'll shoot some pics.

i surf with nancy all the time. last week we were the only two working this peak...well for 15 minutes anyway.....then 10 people paddled over. shes playing in my friends bar tomorrow night.
well overhead and blown out now except one spot. i was surprised it wasnt more crowded. like fishing...local knowledge is important if you want to catch anything.

In the middle of Earl here in Tidewater Virginia. Earl has maintained his Republican status by moving to the right and leaving the Old Dominion fairly unscathed. Virginia Beach is getting some tropical force winds, rain and high surf but all-in-all were Otay.
Supposed to be sunny and in the 90's later today.
Watch out Randall, He may not be so kind to you guys.

No rain here in Wilmington, NC at all.. and very little wind. The sky became solid overcast yesterday afternoon, then lightened.. could see the moon at 9:00PM through the thin clouds. We dodged a bullet this time.

Didn't even have to take her out of the boathouse, although I did. Have enough extra lines to hang her. Better safe than, "Hello, Allstate?"
Assume you were the same as I got no distress calls.
By the by, I have your WW II CD. Drop by sometime.

Brew- You get enough Patron flowing..... its like a self sustaining hurricane ...the storm in the mind is cat 5.
Hueso- That is one pretty area you are from..day after surf looked good......I say we hold the next bertam rally thre..this winter!
To the surfers....Was in the surf yesterday and today off Pt Judith light house///Yesterday was user friendly, just overhead and managable ..lots of fun. Today.....well about 3 hours in the "maytag"....clean enogh at times but huge..over 10 foot at times, and hard to read. Ate it a lot and got held down alot to get a few good rides. Side chop was enough to get airtime running down a face.....and loose the rail as well. Rideable, but really not longboard material.
Had planned a trip with Shearwater to BI this weekend to meet up with some friends and family. Based on what i saw for surf today at Pt Judith that I will have to go by the wayside...I think I'll stay in the bay this weekend. Every once in a while a wave would break about a 300 or so yards + out and clean the whole place out. I would not want to run into the wave in BI sound.

giff...surfed yesterday right at the point. its the only place offshore on a west wind. slightly overhead and super fun. today was rainy ,ugly and huge...but there were guys out. i wasnt one of them. tomorrow will be back to reality. actually last tuesday was one of the best days here i ever saw. super clean , overhead and loooooooooooooooooooooooong long lines. i'll take that anytime.
Randall-
I heard Danielle hung on for a while.....had the work face on so I missed the week day swell, (my son who lives in matunuck filled me in)....but, was able to catch Sunday which was epic (at least where I was). Got hooked up with a boat ride to south side of BI with 4 other guys,,son included. It was one of my top 10 RI surfing experiences. No battling out from shore when you are on the boat,,,,just paddle in from outside and ride...what's better than that?. May have to start the B31 charter/surf adventures corp....problem is a lot of down time between swells...gonna be pretty hungry...so guess I better keep my day job....good to day dream anyway.

Giff- Years ago, all you needed to have was a valid license, insurance, and the honesty to declare the income if you wanted to have a small charter business. Now there are a myriad of new fees of all sorts that have made me reconsider continuing on any level. Homeland Security TWIC card/security check, having to belong to a Narcotics testing consortium, (and any crew member at your expense), State/Federal species specific licensing fees, Federal regulation adherance (and the rules just suddenly appear), Mandatory liferaft requirements, Local permits..... ad infinitum. If I was doing it all over again, I wouldn't do it "legally". Talk about government killing a small business.
giff...a bunch of my friends went to block that day.
today i surfed a remote cove about 3 miles from the lighthouse...me and a friend. pretty windy but fun. i liked danielle better than earl. we started off to surf gardiners island but it wasnt happening. i like surfing from the boat but there is always that last exhausted paddle back.
hey..i'm old!!
