OT, speed channels pass time

Post by Bruce »

Friday night we filmed the drag show on speed channel, Pass Time.

It was a long drawn out ordeal from 9am till 2:30 am.

The best part of the whole thing was after we fired up the car, Kevin did about a 400' burnout that left the cast, crew and contestants with their jaws dropped and had the crowd on their feet cheering.

After backing up to pre stage and a few dry hops, I pulled the chute pins walked around to show Kevin and he had the biggest smile on his face.

He nailed the run and as I was walking back to get the tow truck, the blond T & A on the show came over to me and gave me a high five and said out of all the shows, our car scared her.

Yes I thought, my work was done.

As soon as I get the air date I'll post it.

I know its NHRA or IHRA racing, and purists look down on it, but I find myself watching Passtime and Pinks now and then. I think mainly because it more regular (and some very talented) guys, rather than the big guys. Let us know the details...

What was your time?

I love that show. I want my father to run his 49 Olds Coupe on that show. I see so many cars with crazy HP and they run good but I think the Olds is a hard car to predict an ET.

He has an original 454 LS6 from a 70 chevelle (he has had the motor for 39 years) in it and its ALL motor BONE STOCK (motor is in original configuration never been bored and only a 4BBL on it) and 4200 Lbs ZERO aerodynamics.

Wanna play passtime??? LOL!

ZERO aerodynamics
Thats what was so fun back in the day was trying to make a cement truck go fast.

Thats when Detroit iron meant just that, IRON. Not plastic, composites, fiberglass.

It was fun but in drag racing your 15 minutes of fame, comes 6 seconds at a time.

We are scheduled to be at PBIR, Road Atlanta and Roebling Road over the next few months. I can't wait 260 to 270 HP in a 2000# car. She is at Franz Blam Racing right now ready for a fresh race engine, gear box and corner balancing. As you know doing this from scrach takes huge time and a huge budget. Linda & I have been going at it for the last few months and I could almost tast it.

260 to 270 HP in a 2000# car
Try 3000 hp in a 1500# car. Its much more fun.

Forget the German crap engine. A 383 small block would make that puppy scream.

Remember, if its not blown, it sucks!

I'll also remind you of an old saying Mike "drag my knee on the ground at 100mph" O reminded me of some time ago.

How do you make a small fortune in racing..............start with a large one!

The GP bikes today make abour 245 HP and weigh 330 lbs. Not quite the same power to weight ratio, but they also have to corner......

100 mph comes up in a hurry. Second gear and about 3.1 seconds from 0.

jeremy,
Nice car. Was never into imported stuff, but can appreciate anything that goes fast. SIL's dad was into racing those high dollar volkswagens back in the late 80's.

Probably won't know anything about Pass Time for a few months I think. They are the most unhelpfull bunch.

Here's a pic of us running against Joe Jacono's redone Rolling Stoned at Atco back in June.
What it doesn't show was at about 500' they tried to kiss front bumpers.
It was so hot the track was slick as ice.

Image

Many will remember from the 70's that car. Bob Rosetty owns the car and did the refit out of Philadelphia.

bruce the car that comes to mind from detroit with no plastic for zero aerodynamics has to be the buick gran sport around 1985 with twin tubocharged v6 engine . faster then anything that year and it look like a brick going down the track.

Last Tuesday I just found out our segment on pass time got aired after being told is was going to be in Feb, 2011.

It should be on reruns this winter though and I am in the process of getting someone who dvr'd it to get a copy or do a utube and I'll post a link to it.

It apparently was edited down quit a bit, but looked good.

Here's a still from that night I just got.

Cool Bruce, I'll try to catch that rerun sometime. I recently got tickets to top fuel drags here in my hometown Infinion Raceway, for Toyota's congrats on my master diagnostic technician (MDT) status. Those cars you have to be there for to appreciate a 1000hp per cylinder. Eyes watering, passing out from fumes just standing near those things firing up after a 1hour complete gone through engine, and no vvti or 4 valves per cyl here, just very large 2 valves. The trans/carbon clutch setup is amazing also, fried in one run.
