Sterlings Upholstery and Fabrication in New Iberia La. did the tower.
The top came off a Contender, and John's buddy Salvadore refinished it,and added spreader and electronic boxes. Used led spreader lights and raelly like em. Much more solid ride, and better visibility with new top and tower.
Now just need to figure out where to fish? Gulf looks to be a mess for a long time. Might trailer it to the east coast, since ya'll don't let em drill over there.

Capt Bone,
WOT is 35 knots
Cruise at 27-28 knots
Running fuel burn is a little over one mlie per gallon.
Trolling is where you diesel guys do much better. We get right at one mile per gallon trolling. That's the only gripe we have about Targeted Species, and why we have 360 gallon capacity. Gotta pay to play. We usually fish a minimum crew of six with no problem, so it doesn't hurt so bad.

Capt Bone,
No handling issues at high speed that our trim tabs can't take care of. Really not a problem. With the new tower giving us a more solid ride, I have an even greater appreciation of the B31 hull.
Wish our fuel burn numbers were a little better. That will be the only thing slowing Targeted Soecies down, now(besides the oil spill). Curtains and rails take care most of the spray.

wow i can`t belive those numbers ! i was thinking outboards 11 years ago because shortly after i purchase the boat . the marina owner bought a tractor trailer load of susiki 4 strokes mostly 300 hp . i could have had then dirt cheap . now with those number i can see the differance. 35 knots wot 30 knots cruise and mainly 1.6 miles per gallon at cruise , if i troll on one engine the other off fuel consumtion is something off the chart like 20+ miles per gallon i don`t know the fuel tank gauge makes no movement what so ever at idle with the absolute best fuel senting / fuel gauge possible (isspro). i could go to a 31 -32 cruise with prop change but minimum speed would be 6.5 knots too fast for even tuna trolling which the boat was built for. these are certified numbers for 90 miles .

11 years ago the largest four stroke was a 130hp Honda and Suzuki's largest engine was a 225hp 2 stroke with no four strokes. :-D
:) Just joshing ya.

it took me two years just to strip the hull then the bottom, the engines were model 2006 purchase in 2005 we still have a 300hp never title and i think a 150hp if your interested . would have made a differants on targeted species due to largest 4 stroke outboard prop size available.

capt bone 11 years ago is when i purchase boat . bertram came with 504 cummins i remove and installed yanmar (250 hp) used one season and removed them .at that time i wanted to retain bridge and cabin but convert to triple 300 hp susiki left rotation , middle long shaft and 5 blade torquer prop and right rotation and far right would be right rotation.price was 36,000 for triple 300hp susuki .troll would be on center engine only .i was not sure of fuel economy and i would have to remove a perfect diesel fuel tank (231 gallon) . the 315hp cummins cost 34,600 and i had gears. the outboards would have given me one hell of a cockpit and storage underneath . the 35' everglades as a comparison weights in about the same as equal power in 31 bertram ( triple 300hp).there is a huge advantage to triple outboard over twins .i never would consider twin although twin 350hp yamaha would push a 31 quite nicely but if you get one of those ecm problems out in canyon you would have to idle back at 5mph the triples would put you up on plane and take you home on two. after long decision making the engines longivity is why i went back to diesel in 2006.

Kipps set up is amazing. Those are great numbers (fuel and speed).
OB's are a real nice option for the right person. With ECMs controlling all modern engines today, an electrical breakdown is just as likely with a diesel as it is with an OB.
If twin 350hp Yamahas can push this 31ft Bertram over 55mph as it sits then my future project of a single 350hp OB transom mounted to a 31 FBSF should easily cruise at 25mph at top out over 35mph.

I'm having trouble finding the pictures of Targeted Species

unless you won the lottery or you were commerial and needed the write off only a very small percentage would go with the qsb in 31 bertram with ecm other wise they would take the smart way with recon no ecm and 20,000 in your pocket. i run the same fuel economy and speed as qsb`s cummins.only thing you keep eyes on is temperature and maintain raw water pump.outboards cannot be touch by anyone with even very good mechanical ability.

Converting a 31 Bertram to a center console with outboards is a great idea and it looks as clean and nice as all the rest of the big CCs. Mounting outboards on that flybridge model may have increased speed but in my eyes it took away all that classic beauty. Just one man's opinion. Love the lift dockage though.
