thanks brewster,we think it would be pretty easy to just pickup the phone and tell the yacht club we are coming . we visted the yacht club last summer on our way to oak bluff. they seemed to be on top of their game. thanks neil

We just got off the phone with the Montauk yacht club. I spoke with Lisa and explained to her that we would like for her to take care of everything expect for sponsers and teeshirts, this way we can all just relax and enjoy ourselfs. I told her I would try to get a rough idea as to how many of us there will be. She is going to email me with rates for everything,slips,dinner and rooms if you want one. With this much advanced time I think we can make this one hell of a party! timmmmmmmmmy there is no tequila aviable. Thanks Neil

I've never been to Montauk, it looks very pretty. I'll try to come over and meet some of the Faithful. You mention Montauk here and people say "wear the fox hat". Is it cold that time of year?

nic...no....it can be quite hot in the day time but at night or offshore can be chilly ...specially if it is windy...which it always is.....montauk is as close to an island without being one as is possible....no matter which way the wind is blowing it is coming off the water........which is one reason eastern long island is so popular in the summer....often 20 degrees cooler than the city at night

Delivered a 46 Bertram to Montauk in the early 90's. No provisions left on the boat so next morning before heading to La Guardia I had breakfast at the yachet club.

A couple of eggs, sausage, coffee and juice was 45 bucks. Ouch.

The bridge going over the Shinnecock Canal (rt. 27) connects the south fork with the rest of the island.

harv....didnt realize there was a second page and composed a reply which is now deleted since you realize whats what.....however it might interest you to know that for seven months in 1938 montauk was indeed an island....the same hurricane that opened the shinnecock inlet (i think) also flooded napeague, the stretch from amagannset to montauk, making it an island. there are spots where it is only a few hundred feet wide and only a few feet above sea level....gonna happen again....when?

nic......the surf can be very good in late august....there are a few secluded coves with rock reef set ups that can hold any swell....and one spot that most consider the most consistantly surfable on the east coast...if it gets huge and the wind is onshore the backside can be fun too....hurricanes passing a few hundred miles out to sea are fairly commom.......hard to pick dates but sometimes you get lucky.....can you say panama

Neil; as you know, walter K and I are "locals" . We both dock about a 100 yards from the yacht club. If your interested, we can help put together some "stuff" for the ladies and or guys to do, such as massages at Gurneys, a bus trip to East hampton to shop or a tour to see some mansions, or a tour around montauk, or a bertram fishing tournament, etc. or any assistance you may want or need.Give us an e mail if we can help. Letter from Montauk Yacht Club to Bertram 31 Rendezvous

Ya'll can count on seeing me at the Rendezvous, provided that Randy & Caren can put up with me again. And of course I don't kill myself before then. Damned near crippled my left hand this afternoon with a 4 1/2" angle grinder & metal cutoff wheel. Too late in the day to get cleaned up and make it to the doctor before closing time, so that'll be tomorrow morning's first chore. He's got a real cute nurse who removed 6 stitches from my arm a few weeks ago. This one's a real good one, may even involve some neurosurgery.

Either I've got a real desire to see her again or, more than likely, I'm just getting too old to be playing with power tools. Brings a new meaning to "working single handed"...

Neil you can count us in. Just set the dates real soon. I have a customer that keeps his 53 Viking at the club. He has offered many time to help if we need any help. He was a Bertram guy for the last 20 years then switched to the Viking last year but he still loves the bertrams.

We will be doing what we did last year, which was stay in the islands for 2 to 3 weeks around the rendenvious dates. It would be nice if we could do it in the 1st 2 weeks of Aug.

As I recall, there were over 40 Bertrams at the last Montauk Rendezvous. I think that at least 32 were B31s....

Neil- Patrick is correct. We filled up a whole finger dock on both sides and then some. After reading her letter I found the prices for dockage and the dinner were considerably higher by almost double. All were negotiated down by Dug and Bob Fiorese if I am not mistaken. They've asked top dollar. Lets hear from both of them and we'll go down and see what can be done to get those numbers down. Walter

Never too old to play with power tools, we just get complacent.
Tore up my hand the other day cutting the rudder gland bolts out. Melted a rubber glove into the cut, kinda helped keep the bleeding low, just was in a hurry and trying to use a worn disc.

Watch it with no one around. Don't want to get a call from Deb sayin the only thing left was blob with a beard on top.

Since my brother is getting the boat, I may go up next summer besides in the spring, for a few weeks or a month to go fishing and hang out. Will take the bike to ride around the NE.
