What year did bertram change from the 170 gal to the 220 gal tanks in the b31? thanks Russ

april 11 1973 has 231 gallon and dec. 10 1972 has 222 gallon .i would say about may 15 1972 was the last of the smaller tanks.

My 72 FBC has a 232 gallon tank that is tagged March, 1972. My boat does not have the hull # on the outside of the transom, meaning it was made prior to November, 1972.

The "222" gallon tank is the "safe" usuable, not the absolute capacity, which is in the 231-2 range from what I've seen. The 1972 model year was the first with the big tanks.

vicroy i take it from the march stamping on your 1972 big tank and a later date boat i seen with a small tank ,the factory was using up the tanks on hand ,by any chance was yours diesel from factory?

I think the Bahia Mars always had the 222 tank.

From what I've seen, the smaller tanks (which I had) have a flange around the top and look very different from the bigger tank (which Doug's Crows Nest has). If your tank has a flange around the top, and is shaped kinda' like a little bathtub with a keel on the bottom, I'm guessing its the smaller tank. The bigger tanks I've seen don't have the flange at the top or keel on the bottom (which can only be seen when the tank is out), and have a different, more V-like end profile. I thought Capt. Pat had posted pics/drawings of the 2 tank styles at some point.
