cabin in vintage B31s
Ok so I have this 1970 Bahia Mar down here in Lauderdale. The cabin has the original white (can't believe I even have the nerve to call it that) carpet on the walls of the V-berth. I could probably do a spary on carpet shampoo and wet vac treatment a few times and clean it up some, but what is a better alternative ?
thanks
thanks

Bertramp,
Rip it out, but be careful 'cause it has mold on the backside that can cause you to get sick. One of the guys on the Board here got real sick with a respiratory ailment from tearing his out without wearing a respirator. I misted mine down before and during removal with a 50/50 chlorox bleach mixture using a home/garden variety pressure sprayer, and I wore a respirator from Lowes/Home Depot. Then I used a sanding grinder to smooth out the adhesive residue before before applying a new treatment...in my case, a nylon "outdoor" carpet.

can you paint it?
once you strip out the carpet, has anyone faired it out and painted it...does the foam padded vinyl / carpet make a big difference is noise reduction

i ripped all of that crap out .filthy bacterior ridden, digusting.i puchase a very nice neutral leatherette with thick form backing.just sprayed 3m77 and wrap it all around cutting the excess off under the cushions. very easy job compare to other interior inovations. raybo marine recomended the method years ago and i am very satisfied especially since my grandchildren sleep in there.

Especially for down here in FLA, where humidity is always an issue .... sounds like the vinyl or leatherette may be the way to go.
Time for a new respirator ..... bringing one south on the plane will only create potential problems.
