window gaskets

Post by Bertramp »

I have a 1970 Bahia Mar. My window frames are actually in good condition, but the gasketing is pulling out and dry. Is new gasketing available or should I caulk the entire thing ?
thanks

C'mon guys .... I know I'm not the first guy to have those gaskets shrink and pull out. Can I just pull 'em out and silicone the glass in or 5200 the glass in ... or is there a specific replacement gasket available ?
thanks

Bertramp,
I have replaced all the forward opening window gaskets on my 1961 express this spring. The gasket material is called bulb seal, black rubber, that is easy to install into the groves. I used silcon spray as a lubicrant to help material slide around the entire frame in one piece. I got it at the local window doctor store in Stuart. The stuff is not cheap about $ 130.00 for all the windows with a little left over. It made a world difference in the amount of water leaks on both windshield areas. The boat is still on the hard, but the new gasketing has almost eliminated rain storm leaks into the cabin area.

I used straight silicone. Did that about 5 years ago but I always have this fear they are going to pop out, but so far so good.
