Cummings V504M Oil Leak

Post by sonomelo »

I have an oil leak on the front and rear seals of the port engine(Cummins V504M engine). I currently use Delo 400LE heavy duty motor oil (15W-40). At this time I'm not interested in replacing the engines or performing major engine work. Any/all help is appreciated.

I would first check for excessive crankcase pressure...

Then you will have to at least replace the seals....I am pretty sure that you can get a replacment kit that will provide a sleeve to repair any worn areas on the crankshaft.

Thats some major work replacing both the front and rear seals.....I don't see any way around it unless you are willing to just keep running her just as she is.

Well you can check for excess crankcase pressure as Harry said.

Watch your breather hose. If you get much vapor comming out then do a compression and cylinder leakdown test to determine if its piston blowby.

If you see no vapor, check for a blockage in the breather system.

But my guess would be worn seals on those engines. Without replacing them, your limited to over the counter additives which for the most part thickens the oil.
