Shift Cables?

Is there a better shift cable than the old morse 33 ? Or does it not matter for a B31. Is it worth the money for the extreme cables?

The 33 Supreme is a better cable.

Worth the extra????

Yes if you need tight bends
Yes if the install requires tight bends
Yes if you have a second station, they are supposed to have less friction.


All said and done I used the better ones when I added the tower and replaced two cables from the helm (although they worked perfect, the outer sleeve was degraded) Replacing the helm with the better cable...I did not notice a difference, other then being able to snake it thru the boat easier. Then again I have Single lever Dual Purpose shifters so they are not all that EZ to move in the first place.

I have the same cables for 15 years. A couple shots of CX now and then and there fine.

me too cept one. make sure you tie a repull wire before you remove it.

hey - i have the old red morse cable, but i've heard the guys at my marina (they build towers for a living) say that glendenning makes a great product that is especially good for tight bends and mulitple stations.

The old red cables I ripped out of my 75 worked and looked just fine. As long as they stay dry inside they should not have a problem.

Tony Athens at Seaboard Marine in CA says he carries a replacement cable that is the cat's meow for far shorter money than the Glendinning, and knowing Tony, it probably top notch. The boatyard boneheads that replaced the genset on AJ after Katrina put one of the mounts right on top of the port shift and throttle cables and they are very stiff. Guess I'll jack up the genset and see what's up this winter, if we ever have one.

The red ones came out still work but,one end is broken and the other has started to rust on the inside of the end. The old ones were from 76. I think so should be ok with the Red. Just checking first. I know with a tower you realy need good ones.
