Hi folks ... I owned a 31 about 10 years ago, sold it and went to "floating condos". I'm now looking at a 31 again and unlike before, I now have to consider ethanol. What is cost difference and product advantages and dis-advantages of an aluminum tank versus a fiberglass tank ? The boat is gas powered, but I believe has not yet been "ethanoled".
The boat and I will be located in Ft. Lauderdale.
thanks

Bertramp,
I just put a new fiberglass tank in my B28. You being in the Lauderdale area, have got a number of fabricators who can make aluminum tanks and some even do stainless as well. I had Richard Kidd get mine made by a company that makes fiberglass tanks and other items for Bertram. Since I llive over in Cape Coral, I drove over and picked it up.
As far as the cost difference goes, the aluminum quotes I got were down around $2,000 and stainless for about $3,000. Mine is a 190 gallon tank. But, I'll bet that the economy may dictate some lower prices. Just google around and you will find a number of fabricators on the East coast of Florida all the way down to the keys. My fiberglass tank cost $3,900 and it was built well and made with glass and vinylester resin. I'm pretty confident with that even if they raise the ethanol level.
