I have read in the past about people looking for a flybridge, Carl @ Elite Marine is now building exact bolt-on replacements for the 31. The only difference from the original is he has added the new dash set-up which can hold 10"-12" screen equipment (Raymarine C & E series, Garmin 2010 etc.). I just left his place, he's set-up and laying up the first one now, so if you need one now is the time to call him, he said he can may you a better deal since he's set-up already. Carl, actually his wife, will be registering onto the bulletin board pretty soon.

I've talked with Carl twice since yesterday and he tells me that he's down sizing his operation and ready to enter the after market/custom parts arena. He has a number high end designs for the B31. I've encouraged him to get a website developed.

scottD does he make that kick up on the windscreen area as a seperate piece to raise the hight of the flybridge so you can fit two c or e 120series raymarine units ??? or do you have to buy the hold flybridge.

Bob, Carl makes a dash that would replace the old dash. I think he just cuts off the old top portion of the bridge console and glasses on the new piece (I have the old original dash from SUPERMEX, I don't know why I kept it) If you pull up the posts of supermex from this site you can see it.

scottD thank you for the return post. i have two c-120 raymarine and would like to mount them both in the dashboard left and right of my pod.the stock windscreen mounts on a 3" area that runs along the top of the bridge.sort of a kickup with a nice rounded contour.i know someone made a second contour and raised the front of the bridge about 6".they then proceded to remove windscreen and install two e-120 raymarine unit built into the bridge i though that was one of carl`s pieces.maybe jp had that on his boat.i think elite marine makes a one piece bridge that includes the piece i am talking about but is part of a entire bridge with glass pod and a totally differant look.

You mean like this Bob. These are 12"s on Chimera with room for gauges over top. The profile is stock.

You can even increase the angle a little more to accomadate a sit down helm like on Pheonix

when I last seen Bob's boat the plan was panels similiar to those, I also suggested panels like that to my customer- but he is afraid the angle wont be friendly for use and glare?

thats it jp thank a million does the port and starboard of this addition have a second courtour like the original sort of a double "hump" ???
capt patrick this job you are doing is similar to jp.for me it is essential to have one c-120 raymarine (12" screen) dedicated to sonar and the other screen for gps/radar and both of you had the same idea a permanent recessed mounting for the electronics.i need that little area above for w/p switches my gauges are in the pod.i would appreciate a side view to see how you made the courtour.-----thank you both

i intend to do both jobs this winter ;windshield and bridge extension as we clean up the main maintenace building ,you can drive the travel right in
make a real nice work place.well low and behold there are two heavy shipping crades marked yanmar.tommy the owners says "bob put those in your boat you need them"i open the crate and they are yanmar 6ly2-stp.these are mechanical and don`t meet present epa standards they are 440 hp.capt patrick isn`t this the blocks you put in buddy boy???i think you use the 300hp base engine.how did buddy boy handle with 1411 lbs each.that is like a death wish changing the water line paint changing engines is no big issue but i wonder if i can go with 1.53 gears. i need that down angle the whole concept of phoenix is base on this one piece contruction ;harmonic balancer to prop.

Stop daydreaming! You have your hands full just wrestling in that front window, and especially if you get into bridge mods... Yes, Buddy has the 6LYs, but 315 hp & 2:1 gears. The thought of 440 hp Yanmars in the B31 is ludicrous. You ready to hack into the hull & install prop pockets???

Buddy Boy topped out at 31 - 32kt with the 6LYs and zero problems with the weight.

I'll take some more photos of the bridge tomorrow.

just day dreaming but i need to at least try them in another perhaps the shelter island 31fbc hidden in the woods that my son show you pictures of at montauk.getting back to the real world i would like to bring the top of the finesh bridge slightly higher than the pod like jp has.what type of material did you use to make the curve coincide with the upper bridge.

Bob,

The top of the bridge is original on Chimera, Capt Pats pod was pushed all the way forward and the flat panel for the electronics were tempalted out of cardboard.
The compass was mounted half on the original bridges flat edge and half on the pod. It was done this way so that the original profile of the boat stayed the same.
The flat panels were glassed to the pod and perimeter, you'll have to be careful glassing the panels in with a finished helm pod in the middle. Sort of going backwards, like glassing in a front windshield after the boats finished.

jp you could have fooled me from the angle of the photo (front view) i though you raised the top of bridge 6" or so.as to glassing next to the teak pod with 25 coats of finish another challange like the windshield.

Bob,
Yes the 6LY 315 engines in Buddy Boy are the same block as the 440.

Based on my service on these engine blocks they are good up to 400hp.

The original design hp of 315 and 350 made these engines a lifetime of the boat power.

Above this not so good. Just my opinion though.

I was lucky to get the last pair of 315hp engines out of my dist for Buddy Boy. Jim didn't want the 6LP engines due to a higher pitch turbo whine.

Bob,

Here's a few more shots from the bridge mod:

The two panel blanks were made by laminating 3/16" fibergalss sheet to 3/4" H60 Divinycell. The mating edges were ground to a taper as necessary to fit. Bonding was done with thickened epoxy. Joints will be radiused with Awlfair. The templates for the panels were cut from stiff cardboard...

All excess material, from the console pod & original dash was cut away before the panels were bedded in.

The console pod is laid up in the mold & cored with 3/4" H60 Divinycell and glassed over.

By lowering the angle or reducing dimensions of the panels, you can get more of the original coaming to show.
