Exhaust hardcoat
I have seen exhaust systems that have a Black Hardcoat Insulation on the "Hot Section" between the engine and the shower head.
Do you guys know where the Hardcoat material can be purchased????
I have searched the internet with no luck. I have been told that its not a good idea to put the Hardcoat insulation on my pipes but I want to do it anyway......it sure makes a good looking.....
Can you help me find this stuff.........it can't be that hard to apply

Harry,
Thermo-Tec is possibly the best material for hard wraps...
For marine exhaust sweeps, it has to be oven cured. I'm guessing around 500ºF & for probably around 30 minutes. After cooling, blow off any dust with light air pressure & then coat with Thermo-Tec's High Heat Coating. To get a smooth surface, it'll take several coats.
Curing is a smokey & stinky process. Don't do this in Momma's oven...

Thanks guys
I kinda had my heart set on the smooth black hardcoating. My thoughts are that it will be very durable and pretty easy to apply right here in my backyard.
Another boater buddy told me that a downside is that this type of insulation will trap moisture and damage the pipe........I answered that by making my pipe out of 316 SS......Russ has a very good point about being able to remove the blanket for the service of a broken exhaust pipe....
What about it........anyone else have any thoughts......good or bad either way???

My sweeps are a single wall 316 SS pipe with a shower head connection where the pipe meets the fiberglass "Y" pipe.
That's why I really need to insulate.
