Rare Bertram on Ebay....
I know that the majority of you guys are very aware of whats on ebay...
But, I'd hate for one of the faithful to miss this if interested. It's a really rare B28 Baron...bare bones, no power, a blank canvas so to speak. I think a speed junkie should get her ( listening Bob Lico? ) and bring her back to life
Low starting bid ( the same seller also has a B20 begining at $500, with some 4*8 sheets of divinicell thrown in ).
Anyone have any history on these? Strange design, the strakes are a bit different than other Bertrams, almost have a Potter / SeaCraft resembelance.
Says they're in Indiantown FL...

I dunno Capt...
I see what you're saying, but the few pics I've seen of a 28 Baron all look just like this boat. Definatley a departure from a normal Bertram hull we're all used to.
Here's one, with real bad photos:

Here's the add from '69:
This may be the real deal....

Have you seen it in person Rod? What is it that rings the alarm bells &makes you sure it's not?
Besides the fiberglassed "windshield" it looks dead on... to me.
Even the shot from inside the hull shows the green-dyed polyester & glass layup, like a Bert hull.
At first I thought it was the blue "Speedmasters" B28, then I saw that it's STILL for sale in FL...it's been listed at least three years.
Then I found this: http://www.bertram31.com/bb/bbs.cgi?noframes;read=59324
And I'm wondering if it is the boat that Lynn (thread starter) is talking about. Both mention something about getting it from an estate- which don't mean shit, but it's possible.
Oh well, I just thought it was a good opp. for someone to pick up a helluva rarity. Now I kinda wanna run up to Indiantown and check it out.

oh c`mon buju now i am accused of being a speed junkie!!!! i get no respect.(from the picture Godfather) what have i done to get this disrespect?.just because i feel a 31 bertram is perfect at 38mph and a 20'bertram should run at least 70mph.getting back to the issue the serial numbers should be berg follow by 4 manufacturers numbers ok it was built prior to 1973 (first year of embetted manuf. information in trasom)then i could rely on my racing days i posted a real bertram raceboat many years ago on this site perhaps some of you remember.rocky aokie had it custom made at the factory (dick bertram signed in person)38' i navigated it for the freeport race around mid seventies.strakes were the same as 31bert first totally kelvar boat at the time.the 28 cigarette i built was ten times this so called bertram.i put my money on capt patrick---------out

when i lived in utah there was a company called astral-tunes. i had one . it was a tape player and a small motorcycle battery in a padded , strapped thing you wore on your chest......when i went to work one day one of the waiters had a walkman.......my first thought "thats it for astral-tunes"
i never actually owned an eight track

20 bert on ebay
Anything I need to be careful of on that 20 up for bid? If I'm looking at a complete tear down/rebuild I guess the bugs will show themselves or crawl out on their own. I was considering making it a center console since it seems it is only the bare bones of the boat. That leads me too...
If you came across a bargain boat (25 Bertram express cruiser) how bad of a person are you (am I) to consider cutting the top (the cabin) off of it to turn it into a center console? I've always been a wooden runabout fan and to keep the value there it's usually a "keep it original" thought process. But, it seems most folks restoring Bertrams, Seacraft, Makos, etc make them like they want. I want the boat Bertram didn't build or build enough of a 20-25 center console. This post is already too long...since most of you guys have been here/done this I'd like to see what you think. Thanks.
