At the survey three years ago.

This spring I scraped, sanded and painted as best I could.
Cleaned and painted the bilge while it was empty.
Not like new but a big improvement in person.

Looks good, I am cleaning up my engines as well, that paint is very stubborn to get off.

I have been using stripeeze from ACE hardware, it works pretty good since the engine are apart and not in the boat. You can not use it in your case but I figure I would chime in to share info.

I am going to paint the engine compartment while they are out as well.

I am getting to paint my motors too. They are out of the boat, is it OK to soda blast them and/or powerwash or will it cause to many problems in the future?

Aluminum foil all of your hoses (its cheaper and easier then taping them off)
I like to cover the windings in the altenator and any of the electrical connections and cables as well.
Couple cans of Brake cleaner a good bronze wool pad and bronze tooth brush (steel will rust everything)
Make sure your batteries are disconnected (that's right kids we're using metal to clean metal we don't any sudden groundings), put some oil sorb pads under the engines and spray and brush the crud away. Give a final hose down with the brake clean a, nice easy mist with the hose then dry- wipe and paint.
We used a simple Tempo cloud white engine paint. It was easy to come buy and is holding up well.
It was easy- took almost 1.5 days to prep and 45 minutes to paint. And another hour or so to pull all the tape and foil.
