Are the glass bowl type still a good option?, or is there something better to go back with?

If you are refering to strainers inside the boat this is what I suggest.
At the thru hull intake, outside the hull there should also be a strainer.
On my boat, I have the stock Bertram strainers under the hull. These are very small and have slotted openings that run the length of the strainer. I also had a pair of strainers inside the boat as well. However, I then decided to install groco style strainers with pinholes in them instead of slots due to the heavy concentration of eel grass in my area. I left the stock strainers on the hull and mounted the new ones right over the stock.
Groco strainers are wedge shaped and come either with slots or perforated, with a trap door to clean them out.
