AKA bonita
Harry, what we here in da south call a bonita is in fact a false albacore. In essence, inedible unlike true bonitas. But, my Korean barber Lisa loves to make fish soup out of them. She reciprocates with a message so all is good. -Tom

A charter fisherman very close friend of mine talked about cooking "Bonita Burgers".
I was lucky in that I was never around when he served um up........don't think I could stomach Bonita............but I dearly love good Tuna
So.........the fish that Wayne is showing is actually a Bonita????

Sounds like your cat is a "Choosey Mother".........just like the Jiffy Peanut Butter gal (Only choosey mothers choose Jiffy)
We gave one of our cats some Cozy Kitten catfood once and after smelling of it she immediately turned her back to it and started scratching dirt in efforts to cover it up.

I can believe Harv's cat will not eat them. False Albacore is nasty stuff. You need to soak it for week changing the water often. Then throw them out.
I know some guys who eat them but they are tough. Now True Bonita, the ones with the teeth, just throw them on the Barbeque and you are all set. Try coating them in some mustard then cook them. Sounds gross, but is actually quite good.

To simplify identification go to http://www.gma.org/fogm/Scombridae.htm
Basically,
Blue back with stripes on back with long 1st dorsal = Skipjack Bonito
Blue back with stripes on Belly with shorter dorsal = Oceanic or Common Bonito
Green back with curly lines on back, short dorsal like the oceanic, usually with spots on the belly, but not necessarily = false albacore.
Food value
Skippy's first
Common or oceanic next
Falsies, don't bother
