Dripless shaft log

I have installed dripless shaft logs on my 31, Time Flies, and want to know the best place on the engine to plumb the water source. I have 3116 Cats in the boat. Thanks, Jerry Nutt

Jimmy - you probably have Sherwood 17XXX raw water pumps and they have a pipe plug on the output side you can easy plumb to - just use small pipe fittings to reduce the flow to what you need, or even a samll ball valve to throttle it. Use clear hose and it will double as an air bubble detector so see if you have any suction leaks in the raw water intake or the pump itself.

Don't know if it will help, but on my 440's I tapped into a pipeplug on the bottom of the heat exchanger.

"If" you have no plug taps (best option) you can install a Tee fitting in the hose between the raw water pump and the exchanger. Bush the outlet side of the Tee down to the required size. You can also used a SS needle or ball valve on the Tee to regulate the amount of water that flows to the packing system...there is a lot of water coming form the raw water pump...like 40-50 gallons p/min... maybe more.

My dripless shafts are tapped off the oil coolers.
