Blissful Ignorance, a wonderful way to live
Been bugged by a doctor in Miami to look at his Hino's for the last few months.
I hated going down just for that but I had an eye appointment at Bascom Palmer today and also was to look at Zero Cavity, so I said okay.
Engines wouldn't turn up over 1100. Been running like crap on and off. Had injector and turbo work done and still nothing.
I mentioned dirty bottom and gear. Just had the bottom done 3 weeks ago and nothing changed.
Opened the hatch and dropped right in. Other than the bad water leak on the port engine, eveything looked good.
Popped back up and shot the bull a little more with him mentioning the gen set started acting up also.
Fuel, I thought. Fuel according to him was a couple years old(lives on boat).
Jumped back down and looked at the Racors.
Someone had put a nice label with the date last time they were changed.
08/13/01. 6 years ago. Popped the top and the filters were pure sludge that no one seemed to catch.
It was also the last time the oil was changed.
I told him and he just shrugged, no one told me to change them.
Ahhhhh.................

Brewster,
You would think so, but its amazing how many service personal always seem to equate poor performance to injectors or turbo's and not fuel issues.
The boat owner is not what I term a "boater". Nobody ever told him that maintenance was necessary.
Besides, Miami is not the best for service personal. I turn down quite a bit of work cause I really hate traveling south of the Palm Beach area.
95 has become quite the parking lot.

Bruce, a guy on my dock says his engine wont turn up so the mechanic asks all the right stuff. Boat owner says it must be the turbos because he has less boost, wants him to pull the turbo. He does and the turbo for sure needs love, so the owner says get new one at 4000$ and has him put it in and he gets more boost but still wont turn up, missing 300rpm. Mechanic asked him about the props and he says there the same as always. Wife is standing there and says I drove those props to the shop a couple weeks ago so they could get fixxed. Owner gets mad at her and says oh yea I did have them play with them a little. The mechanic says I asked you that ten times about the props. Owner says well I know that is not the problem. They pull boat, change props BAM +300rpms Now the owner wants his old turbo back and wants the money back for new turbo and all the work for free because he says the mechanic should have known and he should not have had to say anything
