Guys I hope this stuff aint ethanol damage.
Diesel repower from gassers.. 3 yrs ago....
I got bogged down sat coming home from Catalina... air was seen bubbling in my filter bottom bowl. Then ,in the course of 4 hrs,engines slowed to an idle.
Yesterday after checking all fittings nI had the tank isolated & took the pick up tube out .The screen looked like this.
What do you think... Is itr typical diesel crud ?? Or resin being eatin off the inside of the tank?

Wayne, looks to me like plain ole diesel algae crud. I'd put some biocide in the tank, maybe kick it up a notch with a gallon or 2 of Gum Out. This time of year with the hot weather the bugs in the diesel go nuts.....I had two partially clogged Racor 500s with only 17 hours on them and they had the same looking stuff on the outside, but it had been 104 degrees here for a few days.
Diesel is nasty stuff and bugs like to live in it, especially in hot, humid weather. Buy lots of filters.

Looks like the crud that is sometimes refered to as Algae to me.
Since I to will soon be repowering to diesel I have been reading and trying to figure what I have to do to minimize the possibility of having to deal with the problem that we are discussing.
I have read several websites.......this is one of them........but I found one that really explains what is going on and how its related to the modern refining practices..........when I find it I will post it.

Looks like sludge, not tank residue. But I would not run without a screen.
Remember you have lines and fittings between the tank and filters. I have had to clean or replace fuel lines with this problem.
It can have the same effect as plaque in your arteries and veins.
Its quite a bit more time consuming and much more expensive.
With the screen. you just remove the two lines, unscrew and clean and drop back in.
One of the best things on a tank pickup you can have. As long as its in a removable location.
