PYI DRIPPLESS STUFFING BOX REPLACEMENT

Post by SEAHORSE »

Can anyone tell me what the OD of the stern tube is on my 31 Bahia Mar with 1-3/8” shafts. Trying to order the replacement kits from PYI and there asking me for the outside diameter of the stern tube. Trying to get the replacement parts ordered before I haul out so I can do the routine replacement of bellows and clamps and set screws they recommend.

Since you have it all apart you might want to look at the Tides Dripless seals.

https://www.tidesmarine.com/product-cat ... eals-kits/

The nice thing about them is that they give you an extra seal carrier in case the seal starts to leak. The Carrier goes on the shaft and if you get a leak you just remove the old seal, open the carrier and slide the new seal in place. No need to slide the shaft back.

If the bellows goes you the PYI seal, you have to slide the shaft back and that means pulling the boat.

Just a suggestion.

Unfortunately I don't know the size of the shaft log.

As far as I know, my boat is pretty much standard as she came out of the factory (454s with 1 3/8" shafts). When I redid my packing boxes (standard flax packing type) the new ones came with 2.5" id hoses. Buck-Algonquin part number was 00PB138G.
