QSB 380 hp exhaust elbow help please

Post by Todd Pearce »

My friend has twin cummins QSB 380s, problem is the exhaust elbow of the turbo , they keep failing and there is a factory upgrade to a SST unit, trouble is here in NZ its crazy expensive, anyone got a friendly Cummins parts dealer i can contact, completely open to any and all advice/options, his boat runs daily for 10 weeks solid in summer then gets dry stored for the rest of the year , which i suspect is part of the issue

A Custom elbow made not to fail. For the price of standard elbows and risers, a high-quality custom may not be far off.

Around here a go-to for semi-custom off the shelf is

Has to be a good marine welder/fabricator around...they are not that difficult to make.

I bought one for my port engine. I'm going to have to have it modified to work for my installation. McMaster Carr has the blank flanges and close elbows so it might be cheaper to buy the parts and have it custom welded.

Bought the flange to the turbo from Seaboard, the elbows and hose tubes from McMaster. A little tweaking then got to mocking up n welding.

Carl,

I'm doing the same thing. The seaboard marine elbow just will not work. We've ordered the parts from McMaster Carr.
