adjustment of Lee's J style outrigger bases

Hi All,

I temp installed the outriggers and due to the curve of my doghouse roof they slope outward in the stowed position and in the operating position are far too low. The riggers have a button on top which locks them in the stowed position and you can press it down and turn the riggers outward to the operating position.

Does anyone know if these outriggers can be adjusted to change where the stowed position / operating position is? My thought is if there is some plate inside I could adjust it to negate the angle of the roof, it would correct both issues at one time.

The rigger bases are no longer on Lee's site and I've sent them an email asking for advice, if anyone knows how to adjust them I'd love to know.

You can get shims to straighten them up.or make your own out of AZEK.

Lee's Tackle just got back to me with the same answer as you just mentioned. There is no adjustment capability on those rigger mounts.

I just re-did my back stairs with Azek treads and have a bunch of scrap but it is brown and it would look ugly on the boat, I do have some high density white cutting board material that is almost 1" thick and am thinking of making wedges based upon that material.

I think if I use the poly cutting board material and keep it close to 1" thick on the low side and let it taper off on the high side, it should work decent and I can make the strips wider to spread out any load more. This may be a thing I put low on my pick list of things to do.

Just thinking, you could build a form on the pilot house and pour a thickened mixture that would self level. I used AZEK leveled with thickened epoxy on my electronics tower to mount it level. used the same procedure on the mahogany for the bridge seat bases.

Looks like you are trying to use side mount bases in a top mount configuration! Have a look at Taco's top mount bases such as their 'Grandslam' line, you'll achieve what you need with a through top arrangement.......... as is you will have height/spread issues, not to mention deployment/stowage issues, pretty much regardless of how you backyard engineer the side mounts to work as top mounts.

I've had the riggers for years and run them top mount, when I search for the part I come up with Lee's Tackle Top Mount Outriggers Model OH277T so I assume (could be wrong) that they are capable of being top mount.

Now for the comment about being a backyard engineer, I resemble those remarks

Look like others call them Top Mount, Lee seems to call them Skiff Side Mounts.


You've used them so obviously they work for your needs...but mounting on top you only get to utilize two positions up and out. Normally not a problem unless you need to clear a bridge as they will not lay down for clearance. If you need to go under bridges or store lower, you'll just have to pull them out and lay on deck or...


With the pin lock, I'd bet another hole could be drilled to offer the correct angle you're looking for. That or stop rotated, machined some depending on how they designed. I see the two cap screws in the back, I'd take a look and do some backyard enginnering. Or make the wedges...easy enough, just not as clean a look.

If starting top from scratch and knew this you could have tricked it out with a flat recess...maybe a tad bit much work now.

I've always run with them stored in a canvas bag in the cabin, once in the fishing area take them out and extend then put in place.

Preston has the right idea, just that it is going to be something that I do not get to this year.
