Sealing Windows

Post by Captain Decent »

Now that the rain is back in the PNW (wasn’t gone long). I am seeing some water drips from the window frame. It’s mostly but not limited to the area where the rear of the curved window stops and the side windows begin. What’s the preferred sealant for this? I was considering 4200 but maybe that’s too aggressive. Any suggestions?

Most of the members use Silkaflex. 4200 is too aggressive. The issue is that due to all the twisting they will start to eventually leak again.

I have been told that 4200 does not have good UV resilience and that 3M's 4000 is formulated with UV resistance. I believe there are similarly a multitude of Sikaflex compounds and believe they append the product number with "-UV" to indicate durability in sunlight.
Good luck,

Do you happen to recall which product you used?

I am tired of replacing the exterior rubber for my front windows. Now thinking i just need to find a good UV resistant glaze.

What exactly do you guys mean when you say “glaze”. When I look it up it appears to be synonymous with “caulk” or sealant.
