Is anyone going to Greenport this weekend? There are small craft advisories even in the Sound for Friday into Saturday.......

Gonna be a little 'sporty' out there.

We were planning on driving out by car but it seems most of the Connecticut folks aren't coming, I don't blame them. I'm expecting the Lico's to take folks on ocean tours on Saturday.

Was thinking about taking a drive as well but didn’t see much chatter about it so thought no one was going. Now with storm, probably a lot less. Although traffic should be much better. I would also need to plan a place to stay as drive is too much to do a day trip from central NJ. Does anyone know anywhere to stay in area that is “reasonable” out that way? Planning to bring my wife so would have to bring my dogs unless I came solo. Would love to meet you guys and see the boats.

Mark not sure it is worth coming this year, seems like everyone is cancelling. We likely won't be going. That being said if you do go out, if you want a moderately priced hotel the Hyatt Place in Riverhead which is attached to the long Island Aquarium is pretty nice, 20 minute drive from Greenport. The Harborfront Inn in Greenport is very nice and you can walk to the marina, there are plenty of small hotels in town that are pretty nice and fairly pricey; not chains...

Peter - Thanks. I’ll check them out. I checked the Hyatt but they were booked online. Sometimes there is availability if calling. May have to wait til next year. If making the trip, would like to see as many people and boats as possible. Then maybe make it a regular event and possibly by boat if the future works out.

We were planning to drive out for the day on Saturday. I have actually been waiting to see if the Bertram people were going to cancel it the event.

For those not on Facebook, copied post.

As a follow up to the Long island rendezvous discussion, this is and has been a very difficult storm to try and predict.additionally, there seems to be some discrepancy between forecasts. It's still down in Florida, moving N at 9mph, as of an hour ago, yet our forecast for Friday and Saturday is not great at all. I've seen all sorts of forecasts today, from waves 4-6', one group was predicting 12-20'. In the last 24 hours, we've heard from numerous people in the group who have opted to cancel.
We've decided to cancel as well, as have three or four other boats from our CT. location.
I would say the rendezvous is still officially on, whoever feels they want to attend.
Thank you to all who we're going to participate, I know, myself included, we're all disappointed.
Perhaps we'll try again next year, hopefully, with no hurricanes.

John - Could be a possibility. I'll give the Hyatt a call tomorrow for availability. Any other places in the area I should try?

Peter - What Facebook page are you referencing? I'm not a big Facebook guy but if there is a group or something that folks follow...

Thanks.

Mark-

Sorry, I don't know the local hotels in Cambridge. Easton is about 20 minutes away and has a great little downtown that'd be nice for a getaway. So do St. Mikes and Oxford. Oxford is really small, but a neat little town with a couple of nice restaurants and bars. The Hyatt in Cambridge is really nice. If you make it, stop by "Crows Nest" and say hi.

this morning waves in the inlet were 15' and better .just a little too much you cannot exceed 12' and make headway especially for 100 mile trip and if i cut in at shennicock the canal and locks would be impossible with 40 knot gust so i canceled mitchel park.damm bummer i installed the new bridge seats and wanted to show them.mitchell park e-mail me to the effect they will not be responsible for waves pushing transom of boat up on floating dock. must have a "hand on vessel" at all times. well i would go in 10 footers but at dock their is no protection from elements.

Mark, the facebook group is Bertram Yacht Owners of New England. There was also an event created called Bertram Long Island Rendezvous.

Bob, I drove the length of Ocean Pkwy this morning, both FI and Jones seemed very passable. The waves at Gilgo were mybe 3-4 feet at best, maybe it's worse out east. Share some pictures of those new seats

the cam camara over the rock jetty at shennecock (were we would come in from offshore to make run for the canal shows 12 to 14' waves breaking over the jetty, thats the height of boat and no matter what you think you can do as far as steering into the trough then gun the engines and leap over next wave at 4o degrees it ain`t happening within the frontage of inlet.you are going to "roll it" STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES

Like John F. Said. Come on down to Cambridge. Nice marina and should be a good day. Turn a negative into a positive.

Sadly I’m not going to make it. I love a good ride but I don’t like breaking stuff... I’m really bummed and will miss seeing everyone. I just think its the smart decision. I’ve made plenty of dumb decisions in my life. Why add to the list purposefully!!!
