Jackplate Gymnastics!

Post by CamB25 »

Here are a set of pictures from today's adventure at the boat shed. Jackplate up, jackplate down, engine tilted all the way, baby! I have about 6.25" of clearance between the engine and the splashwell at full up, full tilt (superman pose in the pictures). Clears the waterline by a good margin. With jackplate down, she probably clears (can't tilt all the way without hitting). The Evinrude tilts more than any engine I've seen. A couple of random pictures showing progress.

10" offset jackplate
7" lift
Top edge of jackplate is 30" up from keel

Matthew - you may not need any lift to clear the water.

1 day closer to launch day! Hoorah!

Congratulations Cam, you’ve done a fantastic job on your B-25. Why don’t you break the motor in by running her down to the NC Rendezvous on May 31st?!?

Cam,

Your boat looks amazing, I love the wood trim on the dash.

From your pics, It looks like I could get away without notching the transom, it seems that about the point where the motor would hit the transom the prop would be exposed, not a lot but it would be exposed. I'm thinking the 12" or 14" setback model would allow a little more of the prop exposed so I'll go with more setback.

btw, you were right about the layers of glass to fill the I/O cut outs. I did 4 layers and will need to add 2 more.

Please tell me your splashing this year!?!

If I was as close as you are now, I'd be putting her in the water...finished or not.
Your patients is so far beyond me.

The boat does look awesome...

Thanks! My goal is to get it wet and running for my 10th anniversary (boat project anniversary) in August. I'll probably keep it up here for fall/winter to work upholstery and pipe work, etc. Re-position cruise to NC next spring - Potomac, Chesapeake, ICW to Wilmington, NC.

Cam, What an amazing transformation from where you started. Its nice to see you kept with a color so close to the original... An homage of sorts in lieu of all the modernization... looks great! The jackplate also looks so tidy given all the functionality it provides.

Congrats!

Cam,

How is your project going? I've had a weeks vacation so no progress on my boat, going to be stupid hot this up coming week so I am thrilled to get suited up sand and fair out my motor well and fishbox.

I was hoping for some pics of your project for inspiration.

Slowly...it's been a very busy summer. I was able to work on it some this weekend. I'm in the spaghetti phase!

I don't think you have enough wires in there ;)

Did you do anything to label wires? I've seen a system where you print out a label and shrink wrap it onto the wire. I've never done it before as it seemed like a crazy amount of work but it looks real good when done.

It's amazing...very simple boat, but lots of wires. I went a little nuts with LEDs. I have blue LED lights everywhere below deck and in the storage boxes. I'm glad I did not put the batteries in the console and that I wired the helm off the boat.

I have an inexpensive Dymo label maker that is under the roll of blue tape in one of the pictures. Heat shrink or wrap style labels on everything. It's a little tedious but my wiring is not color-coded, so I need some data on the wire. The 3-ring binder holds my working set of wiring diagrams.

This wiring part of the project is very tedious and time consuming. I am the master of the one-handed ty-wrap installation with my head hanging in the bilge!

Cam,

If all else fails, you should apply for a job with new Bertram Co. Your design and functionality skills should be duly appreciated!
Let alone your sanding ones...!

I am convinced that you and Scot have been using your boats for years and just torture me by not sharing the results.
