Well, we did it!

Dave Kosh, Kevin, and I got together at Hawks Cay for the first annual Florida Keys Bertram Rendezvous and we had a great time! We met up Friday night and had a dockside cookout, then later, George from the "Can Do It" gave nine ladies dancing lessons aat the bar. nine at once. What a guy!

Saturday, flat calm seas and smoky skies greeted us and we went fgar offshore in search of dolphin, but didn't find any. Very slow fishing. The fires in Florida have messed everything up and the light west wind combijned to kill the bite. Dave and crew stayed until yesterday and I haven't gotten their report yet, but I hope they slammed 'em.

A small but excellent gathering, and I hope we can do it again next year. Dave has some pics to post later.

I'll glad to here you guys had a good time. I'm a little distressed at the fishing report since I'm heading down Friday. I talked to others that were down last week that slammed them, so I hope it was a short lull. NOAA is showing the Gulf Stream @ 14 miles so It looks like conditions are the best in years for May, I'll post up how it went in a couple weeks.

Thanks for ramrodding the first Keys Rendezvous, even though it was a sparce turnout!

There's gotta' be 30 to 40 classic Bertrams within 100 miles of the Keys. Maybe we can figure a way to motivate at least a dozen of them next year.

Glad that the few that did make it had a good time.

Yeah, I think we'll get a few more next time. And the fish did bite on Sunday, just a weird day on Saturday. Maybe you could help Dave post a couple of pics?

More photos from the first annual Keys Bertram rendezvous. I had a great time despite Murphy as one of my passengers. No need for details. We caught only one small Blackfin on Saturday with a guide aboard too! a few Bonita which we used for bait. Then a Mutton on the way home. Sunday we were advised to bottom fish as the bite was off do to the west and north winds. So Sunday produced bottom fish, Black Grouper and Mutton Snappers

That's a beautiful spot that you guys were at; thanks for sharing the photos. Now, come on up and join us for the NC rendezvous on June 1-3 in the Beaufort / Morehead City area.

Yea John,
That kind of flipped me out seeing those bubble boats docked there. Better times next year for sure. A point that was failed to mention; on Saturday, 5-12-07, the largest Blue Marlin of 650 ;lbs was caught on a local charter boat . It was his record for that boat and by any stretch was a big one for the Keys. It was caught from 41 to 47 miles out. Sounds like they had to work for it. The angler was a women! So it was not dead for all parties, just most . The ones further out fared better but still slow. As I indicated in my prior post we were advised to not even try on Sunday and I'm glad as I burned $300 worth of Diesel just trolling most of Saturday with only one baby "Football" Blackfin in the box. That's why they call it fishing and it was still a joy to boat in such pristine waters and sleep in a comfortable Queen size bed. The Hawks Cay resort is a First Class Resort. Also they have already started on the renovation of the main Hotel Buildings (3) The Crew let me have the bed all to myself . Good decent guys.
For those following my sickness , I'm a little bummed out today. I'm on my last chemo treatment #6 and had a routine visit with my oncologist before him allowing the treatment. As it turns out his bedside manor leaves a little to be desired. In front of the Nurse Practitioner he indicated that I will never be cured of this cancer and I should look forward to about 5 good quality years and then it will most likely re occur. I say bunk! I know people who have survived this Esophageal, Liver and Lymph Cancer and live for 26 years. I thought I would share this with you guys since the faithful are a good gang of super folks. I'm sure my Cancer Nutritionist Homeopath will not agree as he administers remedies to prevent that from happening. Based on his success rate and the Lord above I'm going to beat his offbeat opinion and cold response. I'm very confident in my future. Sure am going to make some adjustments in my personal life and it does include more time on the water in my Bertram 31!
Sorry to meander off to another point but I know some of you guys have been following my progress. I'll be mostly absent from the board the next 10 days as the chemo takes it toll on my body but not on my spirit. Fish on faithful as we are going through the best time of the year to fish in most waters as the fish turn on for the spring bite... Dave K
