Yanmar Turbo Question

Post by jspiezio »

Mechanic took port engine turbo to be rebuilt (315 HP 6LP). After about a week or two rebuilder says it can't be rebuilt and a new unit is going to be $3000. Just want to get feedback if this sounds reasonable.

Charlie- I don't know who it was taken to, but I am getting it back tomorrow. I don't believe that it can't be rebuilt, so I will rebuild it myself.

Bruce- Yes, so i have learned. But I am very lucky that I have a friend who will send me a turbo at his wholesale cost, $1700. Than I will keep the rebuilt turbo as a spare.

At least that is the plan at this point.

I am not sure what is wrong with it, that is why i want it back, once I have it I will diagnose it and report back.
