Help - Need hose cap for Detroit 8.2
Crows Nest has Detroit 8.2s marinized by Johnson & Towers. All the hoses need to be replaced. A lot of them are J&T specific hoses that have been out of production for years. J&T gave me a couple of Gates part. #s, and those hoses are coming. I'll have to figure out the rest. What I'm stuck on now are these caps that cap off the water pump. They're 1.5" ID. I ordered some 1.5" rubber caps, but the walls are really thin and I don't think they'll work out. I just ordered one of these https://www.easy-run.net/products/cooli ... 1-2-detail. Hopefully that'll work, but I have really limited space and I'm concerned that'll be to long. Any ideas?

Re: Help - Need hose cap for Detroit 8.2
Rawleigh and Nav- thanks for the suggestions. Those block-off caps are to big. I wound up going with the following, and it seems like it'll work. My local autoparts store spent some time with their Gates hose book and I think its figured out for hoses. What a PIA. Anyway, I need to run her up to full operating temp and pressure (she won't get their at the dock with no load), and make sure everything is holding--then I'll get to the starboard side of the starboard motor. Then the port motor. Then the seawater side of the cooling system...

That looks like a better idea. I was going to suggest hose and a pipe plug, but didn't think you had room.

Re: Help - Need hose cap for Detroit 8.2
If your doing raw water side...I could be wrong, but introducing Alum to Seawater in a Motor may not be a good idea.
I see them being anodes, which may be good, bad or indifferent.
Verify with others that know. Or at the very least add checking their condition to your yearly list for awhile.
If questionable, send me a sample for size tell me how many you need, I'll duplicate and return in 316SS.

Carl
It's the coolant/freshwater side. I hadnt thought about the anode stuff. Aluminum is ok on the freshwater/coolant side, right? I'm thinking of yanmars

John,
When you said Then the Seawater side, my ears perked up. Saltwater, alum with mixed metals does not sound like a good combination.
On the freshwater side using coolant...I wouldn't give using alum a 2nd thought.

Re: Help - Need hose cap for Detroit 8.2
If that is a problem get a shaft guy to make you two out of the drops when they cut the shafts to length. Should be pretty cheap.
