Installation of Underwater lights questions.
I am preparing to install the underwater lights in my transom, potentially this weekend.
I am curious about placement on the transom.
At this point they will go inside the stringers, about 28 inches apart, and about 6 inches up from the bottom of the boat. I am going to do a search of articles, because I know there were some great installation pictures some time ago, and I would love any input or advice at this point about things to look out for.
Many thanks in advance, and I am only a bit nervous drilling big holes in the boat! It will pass I know, but still...
Thanks,
Dug

Dug,
Here's the way mine are done. They are just inside the stringers and the top of the lights are about the same height as the stringer.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I printed two threads from times past and think I am pretty well prepped. DQ, your info is perhaps the most valuable!!!!!! If you could snap a picture of what it looks like on the inside it would be great but not imperative by any means. And also, did you end up using a backing plate or just screwing the ring right in there with a good amount of bedding compound like 4200 or 5200?
I am thinking of using 5200, as I really don't want to have to take these out...ever. Certainly not accidentally!
Dougl33, I bought my lights through JP. Thanks JP!!!!

Dug,
Once you get a layout and the holes drilled take a 6" DA and sand the high spots down on the inside, also sand the hull free of bottom paint. Use a liberal (its a hole in the bottom of your boat don't be cheap) amount of 5200 on the flange end and on the inside. Run the bronze locking ring down and tighten the locking bolts down. Clean up with denatured and run the wires home.
Remember to bond all the lights just like you would any thru hull fitting in the boat.
If you have questions shoot me a pm.
