Cabin Remodel Ideas

Post by Priceless »

So the exterior of Priceless is redone and I'm thinking of addressing the cabin this winter. She's a 1971 31 ft Bahia Mar. The separate head with door and enclosure takes up a lot of the cabin space. I'm thinking of opening the whole thing up but still want a marine toilet in there somewhere. Also want some rod storage for poles up to 7 feet long ( maximum headroom is 6 ft 2 in in the trunk cabin. V-berth vs. offset berth to starboard with storage to port. Lastly want a high quality 6 man raft that doesn't take up too much space and will either keep it in cockpit vs placing under Marlin tower seat. Throw your ideas and photos my way. Thanks for the help in advance.

As far as the berth is concerned, you first have to decide how many people you might want to accommodate and how tall/big they are.
From there you'll decide whether it's a v-berth or an offset.
Lastly, and this is very personal too, you have to decide whether you can sleep over - or almost over - a head.
All else derives from these two answers.
Good luck.

We always thought about doing away with the bathroom but never did. There is some rod storage, the longer rods just hang over the counter. It's not very roomy but it's cozy enough.

If you did want to remove the head I think the 25 Carolina Classic / Albemarle type layout is a nice option. Just in case my link doesn't work it's http://www.albemarleboats.com/25-express-edit/

The concept is similar -- but in a head sea, you might want to make a firm squat onto the bowl so as noted to get launched and the Sheep hit the man!

Thanks for the great input so far. Like the rod butts into the anchor locker idea,as you can probably tell by now I've never had a "fancy" boat with a real cabin, and I love the cool vanishing toilet trick. Keep those cards and letters ( and photos) coming.
