Hold the door!
It's been raining here, so I finished up my console door in the garage.
Iroko frame, trick old growth redwood panel I made up with some scrap purpleheart and sparkles to fill the knot hole, smoked glass light, Southco latch (junk). Awlwood MA on the frame, epoxy seal and 1M coats of varnish on the panel (not happy with it...very soft finish).
I'm not sure it is the most practical door for a boat, but I couldn't stand the thought of a plastic door. I have some other "wood" features that will be revealed over time.

Re: Hold the door!
Thanks, guys. My wife asked me a dozen times if it was "done, done". I said, "What do you mean, dear?" She's heard me say "done" before...only to find out later that "done" only means " done for now". :)

That reminds me of a Rorschach test.

Re: Hold the door!
The execution looks impeccable... The actual design is, i guess, a matter of personal preference...

Re: Hold the door!
HA! I see that as well. Sometimes you have to let the wood speak to you. My brother sent me the board years ago from his Redwood Muffin Research Kitchen (on facebook). I spritzed it with some water and all of the wavy grain popped out...reminded me of waves on the ocean...the birth of an idea. I'm an engineer, not an artist. It was a real adventure trying to pseudo-book match the piece and stretch it to fit the opening. And it's all end grain, cut from an old growth stump with one of those gigantic chain saws.Bruce wrote:That reminds me of a Rorschach test.

No way - you're clearly both.
Thanks for sharing this.
