1982 31 Bertram 315 Yanmars
Did you guys see the 31 FBC that just went under contract for $57K with 9 back up offers on it in Lighthouse Point??? 350 hours on 315 Yanmars...When I looked at this boat in the early fall he was at $118K and wouldn't budge below 100K?? Unreal, I would have paid $80k...John

Damn... Sometimes circumstances change for the sellers, and we have to be at the right place at the right time... Just tell yourself it wasn't meant to be. Or something like that. LOL!

Sometimes you just need to be a pain in the butt and keep calling every couple of months. My friend doesn't even have his Fortier up for sale and some guy is bugging him. Even went as far as the guys wife baking him cookies.
My friend told him when he is ready he will call him.

Re: 1982 31 Bertram 315 Yanmars
My boat was put on the market for $105,000 by the PO. He didn't get any offers. The next year he advertised it at $97,000, with no offers, The next year it was $79,000, still no offers. Since putting her on the market he hadn't done any maintenance, cleaning or anything else to improve her, and she was literally growing a green moldy coating on the cabin and cockpit sides. The fourth year when I first looked at her the price was $65,000. After some dickering and a sea trial I fell in love with her and offered $55,000, pending survey, which he accepted.
After the surveyor found several things that were critical, including the PO's homemade 120 volt wiring changes where he neglected to install a ground circuit, the surveyor told me the boat was not insurable. The problems were all things I could handle myself, so I called the broker and told him she had failed the survey and I wasn't paying $55,000 for her. He asked me if I was still interested if the owner lowered the price, and I said I would pay $50,000. The broker said the owner had told him he wouldn't sell the boat for less than $55,000 when the broker first presented that offer to him, and I told him I would walk away unless the owner accepted $50,000. The broker said he would present my lowered offer, but warned me the owner was adamant that he wanted $55,000. He called me back within 5 minutes to tell me the boat was mine for $50,000.
The moral of this story.. stand your ground, do your homework as to what boats are worth, and know what your capabilities are.

I've never seen this boat on the waters (he's north of Hillsboro inlet), but I have seen it from the road .... somebody got a sweet ride at a VERY right price !!

Frank,
The moral that you're describing is correct.
The thing is that it is not applicable on all deals. I've received a big NO on the face in many cases where I stood my ground and presumably had done my homework.
Morals like this, are like " history". They are written by the winners !
Apart from this, a nice 33 sf, post 1986, has always been a target, only I can't find a nice diesel one...for 50k !!
