Re: Need help in Hawaii
I'd be careful Hueso. I have a pair of Yanmar 6LP 315's which are great engines but they're high speed technical engines and will have issues if not cared for properly. A sick diesel is an expensive proposition and he's being pretty vague for somebody asking $20K.

He is on Hilo which is the Big Island. I don't remember his last name, but their is a member in Honolulu, which would not help unless he might know someone on the Big Island.
Plus you have to take them out. Ouch. I hope you promised your family a trip to Hawaii.

Hueso,
The cost of shipping from HI to PR will offset any savings. You have to remove them from the old boat, make shipping crates, etc.
You should be able to find Yanmars in Florida or the Bahamas cheaper. Seller says the legs? (motor mounts) are not in the best shape, plus they have 3000 hours . Just my 2 cents worth.

By leg I think he means outdrives. So there are no gears. 20K is a bit steep.
See if there's a Yanmar dealer on the island and have them look. Biggest thing is find out if the owner kept a maintenence log and records of what has been done.
If your serious get serial numbers and have a dealer run them to see if they are early recalled engines who needed the new valve seals and if it's been done.

Thank you guys.....and certainly to far away to make a rational deal as I would like to do a sea or "table" trial with my own mechanic.

Hueso, I was going to say that maybe you might need to take a trip to get a true feel for these engines. ;). What a wonderful opportunity to make a trip!!!!
