Engine hatches B-28

Post by Yannis »

The engine hatches, all three, were too flexible and were letting water drip on the motors.
We cut off the central hatch's sides that were acting as common gutters for all hatches (too thin, too narrow, hence too flexible) and made new supports on which we placed 2 newly made gutters. The whole exercise proved waterproof and very sturdy, there is a rock solid feeling when walking on the motor hatches.
Prior to placing the new supports, we removed insulation and faired the 4 areas.

The middle hatch is now easily removed for easy access, the 2 gutters are also removable so if and when one needs to remove a motor that can be done without demolishing the boat.

The 3 supports made of polyurethane:

Gutters just placed on the supports. A little silicone at the 4 ends will guarantee water proofness.
