Repower for a 26 II Sport Convertible Outboard

Post by jprobins »

I have a 1983 B26 factory outboard with twin 200hp 2 stroke 2001 Yamahas. I am thinking of repowering sometime in the next year or so. I am looking at the Suzuki inline 4 or a 4 stroke Yamaha. Would appreciate any experience and advice.

Anyone have experience with the new Suzuki DF200A series? Does it have enough torque or should I really be looking at a 6 cylinder engine?

I would say that if it needs new power, time to sell it to me on the cheap :-) ........ I just love those 26 outboards !!
Can't fault a man for trying !!

I've always had 2 strokes, but as I spend time with friends that have 4 strokes .... gotta admit that I would go that way in the future ... and I would want 6 cylinders

I have a pair of 225 Yamaha 4 strokes for sale 500 hours on em all serviced and ready to go
one thing to mention is if you do go with a used set on the older Yamaha 4 strokes they have a huge problem w the exhaust housing corroding
so make sure they were serviced we did mine already

Hilarious, Bertramp. But I love the little girl too much.

What year and model are they, 1962 32? How much do they weigh?

I have a b26II with Yamaha f150s. 26 knot Cruise @4000rpm wot 41 knots. I love the f150 but I think the new Yamaha f200 is the perfect motor.

Do those 4 strokes give you enough torque off the mark? What about power at the top end? Any trouble making sure you have 89 octane gas?

Having spoken to some other folks and the local dealer, I think I am going to pass on the new Suzy 200 in line 4. I am leaning towards the Suzy 225 V6. However, I am still concerned about the weight. Obviously, at 1983, my boat well predates 4 strokes in general. It is a reasonably heavy girl at about 5100 lbs dry weight. What is the real weight difference, taking oil etc into account, between my twin 2001 Yamaha 200 HPDIs and two new Suzy 225 V6 4 strokes?
