Dug,
I went with 3/16"s tempered and a charcoal tint.
I wanted to go with 1/4", but the windshield insert gets pretty skinny where the the front of the glass butts up, and i still wanted to use an inside trim piece to hold up against the glass.

I used 1/4 Laminated, charcoal tint. I had a 21' proline (piece of crap boat I inherited) with the tempered glass, after going thru 6 foot seas with a shattered windshield, barefeet (could not leave the helm after the windshield broke, single handing) for over an hour at 10 knots and billions of glass shards embedding in my feet, I like the laminated, it may crack, but you wont have glass all over the place and in the bilge. Windows only break when it is really ruff.

Patrick,
3/4" on the port side, 1/2" on the stbd for twist.
Not as bad as I thought to be honest. Over 4 feet or so, I would not think that 3/8" would be a problem. I will confirm with Tim. I am going to try to procure the materials through him. Honestly, an extremely helpful and trustworthy guy. Always has been. Don't tell anyone. ;)

Tom, yes, Thudd. Scott, I hear ya.
Patrick, I will be driving in about an hour. I'll call you from the car. Thank you.
From what I am reading here and seeing here, I will probably be just fine with 1/4" thick glass. But I am always a fan of added strength if I can get it.
Talk with you in about an hour.
