That is really nice. I actually like the look of the boat without a hard top/bimini etc. Reminds me of the factory photos of our old boats. Timeless lines with a touch of Gert.

What really pisses me off about that...its not a ridiculously priced spray booth setup with dryers and specialty equipment and its not years of perfecting the use of "those" tools... It's a couple guys with a paint brush...Alright highly talented craftsmen with paint brushes in what I assume is a controlled environment...but makes the process almost seem attainable to us..well me anyway.

Looking fantastic...those touches really make the boat look modern and clean.

Plastic is the ONLY way to go for that option.

Trust me.

Metal leaves black streaks. Its amazing how few streaks occur when you switch to the plastic with the stainless cap rail.

Carl i guess you and i have meet with continuous failure trying to brush awlgrip on a large area like hull sides. I cannot see for the life of me how those painters attain a perfect job without runs and sags and more runs. Outstanding job gert.

Bob...I'd like to say I got to large areas before attaining pure failure. I did my Boot stripe...looks okay when boats in the water...not so much when on land and eye level. I knew at that point I wasn't trying to do hull myself. I do have to say it held up though...not sure if that was a good thing...

Carl i did the trasom on my 31 bertram 4 times with roll and tip in ideal weather condition then damn near sanded it all off and other area nightfall came and the dew settle on paint and made it flat texture.now i paint matallic blue portion of bootstripe and it ok because you really cannot see from dock,like i said just impossible sitting outside at marina.

Good idea , seriously i did every experiment with roller textures,from sponge brush to chinese bristles nothing consistant!

I have to look around but I believe in a much earlier post, Gert did give up the secret to his success. Their is a yard here in Forked River NJ, and when you can get him to it, he does roll and tip and it looks sprayed.

Tony i should mention on a horizontal surface like deck you can do i decent job with roll and tip with brushable converter but hullside -------- forget it!

Prep, patience, and a little knowledge is all it takes. Forget the roller and brush the whole thing. You need two people who understand the " feel " of the paint and add reducer as needed. I like thin brushes like the Corona- Europa, throw them out when done.
If it's just boot stripes then a west roller and a few foam brushes to tip will work fine.

It's only paint, even I'm smarter then paint.

Bob I am talking sides, top the whole 9 yards. If the guy will talk to you, if he dosn't know you or the right person didn't send you to him you can keep on walking, and if you can get him to do the job, you can bet it is not 10 feet looks great. It looks good standing next to it. Gert does it, so why is it not possible?

My thoughts exactly. I plan to paint the 25 in the spring. Topsides and inside were painted by the previous owner about 6 years ago with Brightsides. Don't like that product but not sure if I want to go through the effort of removing it all. I would rather use perfection or Awlgrip but they can't be used over a 1-part paint.

The sides were never painted so an Awlgrip type product will work there.

If it doesn't look right worst case on the sides is a thorough sanding and another coat. My concern is getting the bootstripe straight, I am a lousy taper!

Mine has the black tape as the stripe. Needs to be redone but been on well over 10 years. Maybe this spring. What i did was measure up from the chine to get the marks on the original. Stirpped off the old one. Then I measured up and used masking tape to set the hight. So the top of the masking tape would meet the bottom of the new boot stripe tape. Made sure the height of the maksing tape was the same all the way along the chine. Now think paint, on piece of tape for the bottom, then do the same thing to get the top line and paint away.
