Bertram decal

Post by Yannis »

My B 28 has a "Bertram" decal on the side which is (and looks) a bit too big. I suspect it should be an addition/substitution by a previous owner.
What was the original Bertram logo on the sides for the 28?
Where can I find a " V " with the eagle sign; did those come in one size fit all, or do I have to see what size is appropriate too? I would need 2 of those.
Thanks.

AFAIK the original emblems were not decals but rather actual metal emblems... I see many Bertram decals on eBay... The original emblems MIGHT be had from http://www.hightidemarine.cc/burgees.htm

As I understand it, Hightide Marine purchased all the old stocks from Bertram... FWIW, I doubt they made a different size for each model... At most, I suspect, they would have used 3 sizes (small, medium and large)...

I bought my 1979 28 from the original owner, who made no modifications during the time he owned it, so I assume that when I got it it was the way it came from the factory. It has no decal or Bertram V on the cabin sides, just the words "Bertram 28" in a metal casting. The originals pitted, so I replaced them with the stainless ones from Hi Tide.

Thank you guys.

As you can see in the picture, the bertram logo is a bit too big and there is no 28 mention; i suspect it came from a 42 or similar size model.

Nav, thanks, as I can see though there are many ...interpretations of the original; those stainless ones are too shiny imho for a boat like this.

Tooeez, have you got any pic of the Bertram 28 s/s that you purchased?

Thanks.

I'll go take a picture now and post it later. It looks like from your picture that the letters are the same size, but in a different place. Mine are lower and further aft.

Thank you.

BTW as I was glancing through some pics of other 28's I've noticed the logo being placed 30 cm from the stern on the sides. Was this an original position?

OK, it took a while but I figured out how to post the pictures (Thank you Capt. Patrick). Yannis, the letters are 1.5 inches high (approximately 37mm)

Yannis: It looks to me that you have the standard size Bertram Logo. I purchased a pair from High Tide Marine last spring as part of a paint/spruce up project on my "85 FBC. Don't ask what I paid for them! I removed a pair of the Bertram Eagle "V" insignia which were on the flybridge. You can have them. Just let me know how to get them to you. E-mail me at lhsavage@dbsattorneys.com. Regards, Leigh

Yannis, I replaced the inner panels with 1/4 inch Starboard in seafoam color. Three years now and I like it a lot; very tough and easy to clean.

Yannis,

King Starboard is a brand name of one manufacturer for high density polyethylene... Just look for marine grade HDPE.
